Steyr M9 and double-tapping

I have a Steyr M9 and was working on my double-tapping last weekend. That was the first time I've tried this technique. Problem is, TWICE it jammed on me. The spent casing did not eject and the next bullet in the mag began to feed. It wouldn't really concern me, except that it happend 2x in the same session.

Does anyone else have this gun, or even the M40? If so, have you experienced this?

How about double-tapping in general w/ any gun. Is this a common occurance when trying to shoot that way?

Feedback appreciated.

This is not a problem of double tapping. It sounds like your extractor is becomming warn and slipping off the case. I have had simular problems with my AR-15. Bourght a new extractor and the problem went away.

Specifically what happened to the casing that caused it to not eject? Did it stay in the barrel, did it flip up and lodge in the ejection port vertically (stovepipe), or did something else happen?

If it stayed in the barrel, your extractor is the problem. If it stovepiped, you've got a problem with the ejector or the load might be a bit light. With a 9mm, that is not likely to happen as they tend to be set for fairly light loads anyway, but you never know.

What ammo were you using?

Agree.

Not a double tap problem, but an extractor problem.

Make sure you keep the gun very clean too. If there is anything built up under the extractor claw, it'll prevent it from operating properly. Make sure you get under there and clean it out everytime you shoot....

Thanks guys, I figured out the problem this afternoon. My buddy is the dealer that I got it from and he was very insightful.

It seems that it's a problem with the ammo. The ammo I was using was some bulk russian ammo that he got me dirt cheap. It was about $80/1000 rds.

The extractor is fine, as the gun is still brand new and only shot a couple of times. The problem is that the extractor was tearing through the rim of the casing. The casing was staying in the chamber, not stove-piping. He said that he's had that problem before with this particular ammo.

I bought the ammo to plink with and just to put rounds through the gun. I definitely wouldn't use it for anything else, especially not home defense.

Still curious, though...does anyone else have one of these guns? If so, what's your opinion of it?
