Walt at Work?

Caught a glimpse of Walt the other day....about to Breach, Bang and Canine.

Perhaps they were escaping Dog Mangling Britons? (/joke)

Ha. It's been tried exactly once, just to see if it was something worth throwing in the tool bag. Getting a guy with a dog attached through a window sucks. You have to assume that there will be broken glass, sharp edges, etc. It's hard enough to get just yourself through all that without getting chewed up. It's much easier to send in a couple of guys to breach, lock down the room and then have your buddy on the roof lower the dog. The handler can more or less guide the dog through the window. I've heard some guys have used this sort of tactic successfully, though Ive never seen it done, nor have I had any success with it (or any reason to do it beyond finding out what would happen).

This has a place in straight S&R - just straight repelling from a high point to a low point - but any scenario that requires speed tends to mash up the dogs pretty good.

Also, all of our dogs were less than thrilled about the whole thing.

LOL Wow, so you actually did do this. Very interesting!

I'm surprised the dogs didn't squirm and writhe as they were suspended in the air.

Of the 80 member team that was deployed to take down bin Laden, few draw more speculation than the one on four legs.

Most likely a Belgian Malinois (though officials say it could also have been a German Shepherd), there was one non-human member of the SEAL team that raided Osama bin Laden's compound, according to the New York Times. The heroic pooch was strapped to a Navy SEAL as they were lowered from a hovering helicopter.

Interesting to see that the SEALs used dog-rappelling in their operation. And, titanium fangs. Really?

The titanium fangs thing sounds a bit wonky to me. As does the radio receiver mounted in the dogs ear (from what I've seen, most handlers just mount it on the dog's vest so that it sits between the shoulder blades).

Google says the titanium teeth thing is bullshit.

It doesn't really pass the sniff test, anyway. I don't know a heck of a lot about Navy SEALs and the things they do but I do know a bit about dogs, and I'm fairly comfortable saying that they're perfectly capable of doing damage with the teeth that come in the factory models. Something like penetrating armor would be more down to bite strength than what the teeth are made out of, and a titanium cap would probably come loose pretty quick anyway.

You have to admit, though, that a repelling dog sporting a titanium grill would look pretty boss.

they do replace teeth lost or damaged with titanium- dogs are expensive enough to merit it- but that is all, not done unless it has to be....
