Buying Ammo Online

Hey I've been a member for quite a while but never made many posts. Just logged on recently and discovered the weaponry forum and figured I'd give this a shot again. (Pardon the pun)

Before I get to my question just to fill you all in on what I'm packin'

Currently I own a Smith and Wesson 686 6 round cylinder 4" barrel stainless. I just purchased a Stainless Colt Government 38 Super and I'm in the market for a Henry .22 LR lever action.

Which brings me to my question, 38 super is not a common ammo and I may be hard pressed to find it in the stores. Has anyone bought ammo online? If so were do you recommend and is there anything special I should know about it?

Thanks!

Also, I think you can swap out the .38 Super barrel for a 9x19mm barrel.

I live in Texas so I may be able to find the ammo. I just moved here recently and haven't really been around to the gun stores or ranges yet.

Buy locally in bulk (1k-2k rounds) if at all possible. Saves a ton of money on shipping and handling.

Yea, there is a gun show next week but I'm going to be out of town for it. I think they have gun shows every 2 to 3 months in Houston, though so I should be set.

"Cheaper Than Dirt" is the exact opposite of how I would describe their shipping costs.

Shipping: Never buy a batch from them under $150 or it's rape.

I've bought from Cheaperthandirt, and you're right, unless you're buying a couple hundred bucks it can be expensive. With that said, they do run "free shipping" promotions on orders over 100 bucks now and then through there mailing list.

I also have worked with Sportsmansguide.com, they're local and typically cheap. From what I recall, they're actually related.

Georgia Arms? Precision Delta? I reload so I have never bought ammo online.

I'd also suggest doing a search for any gun shows in your area. I used to buy a ton of .223 ammo at local gun shows, and it was DIRT cheap.

I just made a purchase from cheaperthandirt so I'm waiting for it to come in.

I think there is another gun show here in Houston coming up in a month or 2 so I'm sure someone there might have the 38 super I need.

On a side note, just got my shiny new Colt Government 38 super and it is totally hot. I can't wait to shoot it.

Click on ammo, click on your caliber, then find the best deal. If you find a good deal, drop by and list it, you don't need to sign up to submit a deal and you're helping out your fellow gun owners.

It's only a bad habit if you use it on people who aren't trying to kill you. The targets you shoot are asking for it.
