microtech halo

Anybody know what the deal with this is? Whats it used for and what is the target consumer? Anybody use one?

Cynthetiq 01-19-2007 11:15 PM

let's start with what is it? there's lots of kinds of weapons out there....

I have played with one of the earlier models of the HALO. You "cock" the knife by pulling the "charging handle" to the rear out of the back of the knife, then pushing it bach home. When you release the blade it deploys from the front of the knife with a lot of energy. The guy selling them said it would punch through 1/2 inch plywood.

I would guess they are marketed towards gadget freaks, wanna-be SF types, and guys who need to punch through 1/2 inch of plywood. I personaly have no need for a knife with that kind of stored energy anywhere on my person. It was a well made knife, but for the prices they ask you can get a Strider, and have a serious tool rather than an interesting toy.

It's known as Jack Bauer's knife of choice for dispatching bad guys through their neck or torso. =D

Initially I was interested in the knife, but it's extremely expensive. Plus, I think it may be considered a switchblade and therefore illegal in Washington State. If anyone knows for sure if it's classified as a switch blade I'd like to know.

I am reasonably certain that those knives are specifically banned as "ballistic knives" in most states. Seperate from switchblades, which are also heavily regulated.

It is not a balistic knife because it does not "shoot" free of the handle housing- it is however, absoloutely a Switchblade/ stilleto and highly illegal to take across state lines, unless it it for sale to active duty military/leos- it MAY be legal to own as a curio in some states, such as mine, but transporting it is problematic- amd a dealer legally must agree to sell it only to leo's or military to legally import them across state lines.... in oregon it is legal- and suprisingly there are few if any murders with them (sarcasm intended- I think just about everything should be legal)

Thanks for the info!

Lol, I just happen to need some holes punched in some plywood. Let me get my checkbook..

Whats a strider debaser?

debaser 01-23-2007 07:49 PM

Strider is a knife making company. They make what, IMHO, are the finest knives on the market today. At first I balked at paying that much for a knife, but now that I own a few I will never carry anything else. Now I just need to talk myself into one of thier tommahawks...
