For the love of god man, if you're concerned about home security get a gun and forget the highlander scenarios. In lieu of a gun, get a dog. In lieu of a dog just strategically place explosives all over your domocile, its almost as practical as going after an intruder with a sword. If I were you I'd find a sporting goods store and buy yourself a baseball bat. Get an aluminum one if you want to be fancy about it. With the aluminum as a plus you can always hook a car batter up to it and duel with your buddy and get the cool sparking effect

Swords were yesterday's guns and today's art.
... Get a gun. Try it, you'll like it. They're like Pringles: Once you pop, the fun don't stop. |
I reckon weight would be more important than length.
But I would say, utterly unscientifically, that about 40 inches would be a good length. |
Well Avarage humman hight is 5 ft 7.73 in or 172.04 cm and people would use a 28" to bout 40" sword depends on what you do me i use a 62" sword or my most faverite my Paul Chen Folded Steel Tori Katarna its little but its nice light and fast and got good vibe but you might thing how is that possible to draw that out single handed well that cause my high is not of what you say as above average hight my high is not Above average hight my hight would be considered ABOVE ABOVE average:) i am currently standing at 7 ft 2.24 or in metric 219.45cm well over 2 meters tall and with this my arm is pretty long i can easily draw out this katarna if you can call it that with one arm cause i have long arms i can get a fair distance away but it is hard to find a good sword for my hight i got my 62" sword made for me (at large cost) didnt think it would fit in kyln but its all good and s a very light 2.4 kg (light for size) and easyily drawn at fast speed and sheathed at speed but it is very smooth and yeah
