I've got 2 benchmade knives...

a Pika is my main one... cheap has taken a TON of abuse and still keeps a good edge... the movement seems a bit tight, its hard to flip out with one hand, with one motion...

my other one... its one of the Mchenry williams ones, its got the same locking mechanism as the one you have linked to... I love it... dont carry it as much cuz I wanna take good care of it and it was a gift... and apparently a limited run so its a collectable...(kinda weird dont know if I should use it and enjoy it or leave it wrapped up)

everything I've seen in the benchmades is quality... from their cheaper end like the Pika to the higher end ones like the other one I have

I'll definently buy benchmade again...
for more tools I always go victorinox or leatherman

I have 3 benchmade knives, including an old cqc-7 that has survived both my adolescence and my time in the military.

Benchmade makes awesome knives but they can be pricey. If you find a friend who is a dealer or if you know any military or law enforcement, they can get you one for approx 40% off the retail price. For instance I recently bought a nimravus for 79 dollars versus the 140 dollar asking price.

Good luck

I can't imagine buying a knife without being able to handle it first. I bought my knife at a little store down the street from me run by an army vet; he only carried Benchmade and Spyderco, because he trusted and respected their work. (I was looking for and purchased a specific Spyderco.)

thanks for the input, i do realize that they are a bit pricey, but as youve stated as well as others, they last a life time. i didnt realize that guys from the service get a discount, maybe ill try and purchase one through a couple friends of mine.

i highly recommend a benchmade knife. I have been carrying my ares732 around for quite a while. unfortunately they have discontinued that knife. if you're looking for an everyday knife to work with, i would recommend something in thier griptillian line. good sturdy knife, great blade, tons of blade options (plain blade, combo [serated and plain], drop point, tanto edge, with or w/o thumbstuds, and handle colors). If you have anything in particular you are looking for, send me a message. my family owns a knife store, maybe i can get you a decent price.

Take a look at Strider knives, then take out a second mortgage on your house. I can personally attest to the quality of thier product, they are simply the best production knives on the market.

I agree, I have replaced my Benchmade with the Strider AR
http://www.striderknives.com/images/2004-ar_blk.jpg
And it is a very simply made thick and sturdy peice of metal that has opened paint cans and cut rope and all kinds of things for me. Dont get me wrong, Benchmade is no joke, but if you can afford it, Strider is the tool to have.

I would personally say that Benchmade are ok, but for a real knive, get an Emerson Wave knive. It's the same quality steel as benchmade, but the wave feature just rocks. I picked one up in a pawn shop for $20 brand new (retail $230), now that was one stupid shop keep. I've had it 5 years now with daily use and you'd never know it. It has scared people shitless with how it's opened (fully open by the time it reaches the top of your pocket). The only issue I have with it is that it took a bit to get used to hanging the knive upside down in my pocket.

I guess this post is a bit late now, but for others, I absolutely love my Smith & Wesson Special Tactical, it's very durable, I've been using it for probably 4 years or so now, and on a regular basis, and it hasn't even been dulled yet. Comfortable to hold and it looks nice too. My brother had another S&W model, and they're all very nice knives, and at a decent retail outlet they can cost $30-40 on sale (Remington store for me)

now i gotta ask, what makes a strider knife cost 360+? it just looks like a blade and a handle to me?
how is it that much better than say an $80 ken onion flip out blade?
other than it looking really fuckin cool (im not big on the tiger stripe they put on everything but i dig the blade/handle styling) i just cant see justifying that much money

I also may be to late, but I have a Kershaw Scallion with the "Speed Safe" assisted opening device, and I absolutely love it.

I use it all the time throughout the day, and it hold it's edge very well.

You can open and close it one handed, making it very convienient and easy to use...

Just thought I'd throw that out there :D
