Concealment

So I have read several posts where you guys have referred to your "carry" gun. I am just curious as to when you carry. In my personal situation I am either going to class or working, both of which don't really allow for a carry weapon.

Short answer should be "whenever I legally can". These days it's "whenever I remember".

State law is also a factor. In WA, there is a list of places concealed carry is off-limits (courthouses, schools, bars, etc) but there is a provision for leaving the gun concealed and secured in a vehicle for example. So in my case, if it’s not on me (whether I'm at someplace it’s prohibited, or swimming in a lake somewhere), it’s securely locked away in my vehicle.

I'll typically be carrying when walking around downtown, going to movies, restaurants, hiking on trails, shopping, etc.

If you haven't already (and no doubt you have but I’ll do my civic duty and say it anyways), make yourself intimately familiar with your state and local laws regarding concealed carry if you're considering it. But if you walk to work/school and don't ever go anywhere else (you do go other places right? :) ) then you simply might not have many options, perhaps pepper spray?

What is your method of concealment? I have seen some "pancake" holsters but I rearely wear a jacket so that seems out.

I carry a KelTec P-11 9mm pistol, I have inside the waistband holster, and a belt slide, the IWB holster typically is carried in my front pocket with a long shirt covering it, just as my belt slide is. It is almost impossible to realize that i'm carrying.

There is a company called Pager Pal that makes a pretty good product for concealment. You can use the provided fake pager, a pager of your own or a cell phone that fits instead. I have one but don't use it much, only because I carry a .45 with a 4.5" barel. Kind of hard to conceal that.

Digilogic 03-31-2006 09:36 AM

In the case of your .45, how do you carry then?

I will either use the pager pal and be very careful when I sit down so it doesn't jab me in the leg, or I will use a Galco holster on my belt and wear a jacket or a long untucked shirt.

I routinely carry my 5" .45 under one medium fruit of the loom black t-shirt, and I ain't been made yet.

I just recently got my CCW, but still haven't actually carried my gun on me. I mainly just got it so if I feel the need to bring it with me somewhere, I'll be able to.

I carry everywhere if at all possible. If I can't carry legally there, I usually don't go.
