How to boot your PC from a CD?
I bought one of these Knoppix CDs so that I could run Linux without installing it on my computer. I have never used Linux before and thought this would be an easy way to see what it is like. The only thing is, I can't figure out how to boot my computer from a CD.
The help file on the disc only says: How do I run Knoppix? In order to start the CD, first adjust the boot list in the BIOS Setup of your computer to boot from CD (before the hard drive). Put the CD in and restart the computer. Can anyone share how to adjust this boot list or can point me to a good site that explains how? Here is a site about the Knoppix CD: http://www.knoppix.net/about.php |

Thanks, Tachion! I forwarded that link to myself at work, so I can try it out when I can find the time. It looks like the info I was looking for!

Once you get into the Bios you will see a list of features of the motherboard. Browse through and look for something like..."First boot....", likely you can use Page Up / Down keys to choose the boot sequence. In the old days, it's almost always "First boot floppy", "Second - Hard disk 0". I think you can figure it out.

pretty much what everyone else said. when you turn your computer on, mash Delete, F1-F6, Escape, all that stuff to get into BIOS. It will vary from PC to PC. Once you're in BIOS, find the Boot Order, like sashime76 was talking about. set the CD-ROM to number 1 position using probably Page Up or Page Down, maybe + or -. There ya go.
