Green Lines
Alright Im having trouble playing movies on my computer
I have a geforce fx 5200 p3 733 256 RAM anyways there is green lines that go down the screen (like bars, skinny) this happens in wmp sometimes the screen will go totally green. in quicktime the screen will sometimes go totally green aswell. I was told to update my graphic drivers, so i did to 80.87 or something... that screwed up my computer (slow, sometimes would just freeze, colors all crazy) so I found 80.85 and now my comp is usable, but the videos are still messed. in wmp i tried lowering the amount of hardware accel, even turned it off.... but then the image playback is slow, and wont let me go fullscreen.... still now PERFECT view either any suggestions? |
This only happens when playing movies? Only in WMP and QuickTime player?
Stick with one movie for the moment. What codec does it need? (DivX, etc.) What codecs have you installed? Any packs? |
only the movie is "disorted" my screen is fine.
I dont know what all codecs I have installed... my computer is getting old and I would always just install codecs when I needed one. How do I find out which ones I have installed? EDIT: I know for sure that I have k-lite codec pack, divx codec, and avicodec. I probably have more though. |
ok I got this program called sherlock
it tells me what all codecs I have installed I have 46! video ones... |
My quick fix is to uninstall everything and start with the minimum. If you're set on packs just get the latest K-lite. I'm not a fan. Too many sneaky combination or version problems, especially if you need to encode.
Use a player that knows the favorite types (media player classic/videolan, whatever) and add the few things you need. If you don't know what's needed by a file use gspot or videoinspector to dig out the types. |
Good post. I'll have to test out some of this software to eliminate codec issues. For a while, i've been suspecting problems with these.

All right, well Ive been trying a whole bunch of different drivers....
Like i said this has been happening for a while, just recently been tring to fix it. The drivers I have now have fixed this problem, but now the video will freeze and keep playing for tiny seconds @ a time. the music will keep playing though. This is happening w/ most of my videos.... I do have some that are playing fine now.... also w/ this driver that i have my whole screen seems to be "shacky" what i mean is when I scroll down w/ my wheel now, it just isnt as smooth as before.... ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!! |
EDIT: actually most of my movies play fine!!!!
but some do pause a bit (ANNOYING!!) and my screen is like i said "shackey" I will point out that i use my 46" HDTV as my monitor running s-video some screens seem a bit more blurry then they were. |
EDIT: the only ones that pause are from the same company. and i find it isnt as bad if i leave the vid alone (i just prefer it being fullscreen)
anyways would this be a codec, or just my slow comp? I did delete the 3 codecs i said above. dont know how to delete others. stil shackey on scroll |

You needed to mention this earlier. Check the frequency that you are outputting to the "second" monitor (I assume you still have a regular monitor and the HDTV is a second) If this is your first monitor, look up what the optimal refresh rate is for it on the makers website. S-Video is great, but you need to have the right refresh rate. It could of course also be the video's you are using. |
ahh yea, it probably is the refresh rate....
THis is my only monitor... Now w/ these new drivers It just set it to optimal, and gives me no option to change it. Im going to locate the software that I had, but deleted trying to fix this.. was just some nvidia software for color correction, etc... |
ok well I reinstalled the software for my refresh rate...
LIke i said it is the software, that can change my color correction, etc... it came w/ my graphics card. asus something.... Anyways since i reinstalled it the green lines are back!! what should I do? |
UPDATE:
ok well I still get green lines in wmp, but i opened the same movies, but tried winamp this time and it worked perfectly!!! why is this? what is wrong w/ my wmp? I dont like to use winamp for my movies, because I use it for my mp3's and my playlist I dont like to change, and everytime I play a movie it erases my playlist, so I have to add all my mp3's again... |
