New work laptop.

I posted earlier about getting a new videocard for my home laptop. Well, I neglected to mention that my work laptop is getting replaced. The new one came in today, so I brought it home to play with. I'll be turning it back over to be hooked up to our network and loaded with our company software next week, but it's mine to play with till Monday.

It's a Dell Inspiron 9300.
17" widescreen on a laptop = teh win
1.7Ghz Pentium/Centrino (too lazy to look up exactly the proper way to state that )
1Ghz RAM
55GB hard drive
DVD/CD-R

It's an awesome chassis for a desktop replacement.
Six USB 2.0 ports, and most impressively to me, I've been on it for quite a while this evening setting up my preferences and playing some Civ4 (64MB video card ), and the bottom of the laptop is not even warm to the touch, a HUGE departure from my Inspiron 5100.

I still have to get it all tweaked how I like it, and the keyboard is slightly different and is taking some getting used to, but I'm pretty impressed. This is the fifth Dell laptop I've had, always had good success with them.

pretty nice!

does your laptop have the del/end/insert keys on the bottom right next to the arrow keys? lol

my work laptop is an inspiron similar to that, but with a 2.8ghz pentium4 and no wide screen... and i don't quite have 6 usb slots... now what on earth are you going to plug into all six of those USB slots? lol, i never need more than three... mouse, memory card, printer!

The del/end/insert keys are at the top.

The Pentium M/Centrino chip is most impressive. I was a bit apprehensive at first seeing the 'slower than I'm used to' clock speed, but the chip way more than makes up for it.

I have no clue what to do with six usb ports. I prefer the touchpad to a mouse, so that's out. I am also connected to a network printer, so I don't need/use one at my desk. I figure a keyboard, maybe my iPod.....ummmm.......uhhhh......I dunno what else.

hehe, i also have couple centrino's and i do agree with that, they work well, i havn't done any heavy workloads on the pentium4 yet, but once i get a chance i'm going to try and do the same thing on each computer to compare speeds to see if it's even noticeable
