I start university next week and require my pc to handle most multimedia technologies (video-editing + audio-production especially). Do you think this upgrade is adequate? Cheers! |
Only thing I see that you might want to change is the memory.. go with at least 1gb of mem. Mem is cheap.. take advantage
|
That'll be a nice system but for video production, disk io and memory are what counts. I'd want at miminum 1GB, even dropping a notch in processor performance if money were tight.
If you add another 512MB DIMM you should choose a different pair. That Value Select stick is specifically excluded from Asus' qualified dual channel list. |
Personally, I stay away from Asus boards since I ordered a set of 3 identical computers and all 3 had the same issues with SATA drives, matched SUPPORTED BY ASUS ram pairs, and Windows XP (yes, the drives were good and I updated BIOS to the latest).
However, I agree, 1GB memory minimum. 512MB just gets sucked up now if you are doing alot. With a processor like that, you will be able to do alot, so why scrimp on memory and slow down your system? |
Ok thanks for the advice, although the negative response concerning Asus boards came a little too late. Cheers none the less!

FWIW, I've had mostly good luck with ASUS over the years. Can't say for this particular board.
Be sure to check their note about the RAM you spec'd. Of all the DIMMs they've certified, that's one of three they had problems with. |
That SLI board is overboard IMO.
He who had sata problems with asus ----- did you make sure to hit F6 when installing windows to install 3rd party drivers? |
Looks great, but I'd definitely add more RAM as these guys suggested. Get another 512 MB of RAM and you'll be thankful.
