Cordless Phone: NiCad vs. NiMh
I have had my cordless phone for 6 years, and the time to replace the battery has come. The battery is a 3.6V 600 maH nickel-cadmium type, but I have seen NiMh types that would fit my phone perfectly and are 3.6V as well. They are 1300 maH, so in theory, they would last more than twice as long. Would a NiMh battery be safe in my cordless phone?

It'll work fine. Don't worry about the higher mAh rating. No fast discharge path in a phone to cause overcurrent problems like with some older cameras. You won't have to worry about a memory effect with NiMH, so if you used to leave the phone off-base until it discharged, that requirement is gone.
You should definitely see better runtime but both NiCd and NiMH lose ~1-1.5%/day. |
You might go to the site of the phone and see what is available as replacement.
Maybe leave an email asking them about it. See how hot it gets after charging for a few minutes and after a long time. I too think you'd be ok. |
It would definitly be alright. Ni-Mh Is a better material for rechargable batteries and 1300 maH is going to let you talk on your phone longer. Just make sure that the little plug on the wires matches the original one :-) (working at radio shack taught me that one)
