What is "Ceres" and how do I get rid of it?
 

I know what it is, sorta. It clearly is an advertising/adware thing that's firmly lodged in my IE that can circumvent my pop up blocker. It is also not listed in my Add/Remove Programs area.

I normally use Firefox, but occasionally there is an online application or whatnot that I need to fill out that doesn't like Firefox, and frankly I don't like having Ceres on my computer.

So how do I send it to hell?

I'd get rid of IE.

Although I don't use Firefox, I'm sure there's a plugin that will help you get around those forms that don't like it.

You cannot "get rid of IE". You can only limit your use of it for Windows Update and finnicky websites that aren't Firefox compatible.

...and now for some actual information related to ceres.

Looks like Symantec has a removal tool. I cannot speak for it's effectiveness, but here it is just the same:
