Removing Aurora Direct Revenue Application
 

Somehow I acquired this Aurora direct revenue pop up thing and can't seem to get rid of it. If I try to delete the file from my hard-drive it says it's currently being used and can't be deleted. Then if I go into Add/Remove programs it's listed as The ABI Network - A Division of Direct Revenue. If I click to remove that file another window pops up and says this can only be uninstalled using an uninstall tool at www.mypctuneup.com

Well, I'm pretty sure I don't want to download this uninstall tool and run it. It will probably make things worse I'm thinking.

So, has anyone else run into this? Any ideas on how to get rid of it? I tried Spybot with no luck. Then I ran HijackThis, but I'm not sure what to look for in my log, assuming that would get rid of it. I can't be the only sucker to have been crapped on with this thing.

My mother had this and a few other nasties on her pc. I ran everything I could get my grubby little hands on (spyware/adware, anti-virus, updated everything) and I couldn't get rid of it.

Eventually (a few days later) I finally just said fuck it, backed up the important stuff and re-installed XP.

You might as well download the removal tool. What more harm could it do, really? There's a very small chance it just might do what it says it'll do.

the uninstall tool works fine.. several people on other forums that deal specifically with spyware issues point people in that direction. I used it and it got rid of that crap. Granted it wasn't on my computer so I wasn't too worried about it start with :p

A common tip most people don't know:

If you ever get the "file is in use" message, try rebooting in safe mode. Any program registered to start with Windows (most spyware) won't be able to start -- and will likely not be running when you try to remove it. I don't know if this will help you run the Utility or not, but it's a good tip to keep in mind if you see that error again.

Aurora is one of the few things I've never been able to fully get rid of even in safe mode.. I've played around in the registry and it still comes back.. like I said earlier after I ran that uninstall it didn't come back. You could also try ewido security suite to scan in safe mode.

I'm with guccilvr, use the uninstall tool. I hated to do it too but after many tries I couldn't get it off a few PCs including my Dad's.

Edit to note that the uninstaller connects to the internet during the uninstall process. The whole thing is just scary.

Well, the uninstall tool didn't work. It came right back. Hopefully I'll figure something out.

There's a post here that details how to remove this crap. This sounds like a nasty little piece of shit.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! This thing is kicking my ass. I hope none of you have to deal with this!

And this thing just made it worse!!!! Which is what I was afraid of in the first place! If the unistaller worked for you, well, congrats, but as I've done a little more searching that doesn't seem to be the case regularly.
