Removing Firefox

Lately I've had this problem in Firefox under Windows, where the download manager just displays

Code:
XML parsing error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://downloadmgr/content/downloadsidebar.xul
Line number 135, Column 27:
<toolbarbutton label="&cmd.options.label;"
---------------------^
I've tried removing all extensions, reinstalling, removing chrome and profile dirs both in doc&settings and program dir, to no avail. I even deleted firefox entries in the registry. Any ideas how I can completely remove Firefox? The Mozilla forums I've searched just come up with XML programming, which I have no clue what to do with..

Shouldn't you be able to go to "Add/Remove Programs" and Uninstall Firefox? It is an application, just like anything else on your computer.

Some applications cannot be removed that way, but yes in this case, Firefox can simply be removed through Add/Remove Programs.

It can be removed that way. not sure in this case if it still can, once some of the files are removed, as well as registry keys. I would probably reinstall it then remove it.

sometimes the extensions mess up, did you try reinstalling all extensions as well?

Firefox 1.05

They just release Firefox 1.05 if you like Firefox installing the new version might fix your issue.

a lot of times firefox's automatic updater for extensions is the route of the problem. when you see an updated version of an extension, install it directly from it's homepage rather than through the update icon.

also, i've noticed that removing firefox from the add/remove programs thingy doesn't remove all of the personalized components. i performed the uninstall and then reinstalled a newer version of firefox only to find all my extensions were still active.

You have to first disable "Hide system files" (or something to that effect) in Explorer, then goto Documents and Settings, *user*, Application Data, Mozilla, and delete the Firefox folder to completely nuke the Fox. Also, it may seem obvious, but after running the uninstaller, delete the Program Files/Mozilla Firefox folder. I had some trouble updating Firefox only to realize I had forgotten to completely remove that last folder.

BTW, your bookmarks are saved in that Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox folder. Unless you've really botched your Firefox install, the bookmarks.html file is safe to set aside and easy to replace if you reinstall FF.
