How to play avi/mpeg vides on DVD player?
Good-day.
How is everyone doing? I have a Samsung DVD P230 player, and it states that it can play CD, DVD, CD-R, SVCD, CD-RW, DVD-R, Video CD media formats. How would I go about converting video files I have on my computer that are in mpeg or avi format to a format that I can play on the DVD player? I do have a cd/dvd burner so I just need the help with what to do. thank you very much. |
I use Nero to do this... select VCD as your option for creating a new CD and then drop the AVI/MPG files you want on the VCD. It will do the conversions and file structure buildng for you.
It takes a bit to do, I usually do it before I go to bed because I don't want to wait for the conversion process. |
Hello,
Is Nero the only way to do this? I just ask because I'm a fan of using freely available software since I don't want to purchase it (funds a bit low since my monitor just died and I need a new one) and I'd rather not illegally download it so I can keep thinking I'm a good person :) Are there any other options? Using Windows or Linux since I have both? Thank you. |
You could also try Sonic MyDvd. It's a good program and not too bad at $70. I'm pretty sure Nero does just as well also. (never used it for that purpose though)
Edit: Posted before I saw you last entry. I don't know of any freeware to do this but a Google search should turn up something. |
have you tried DVD Decrypter?? Here's a link if you want to try it.

nero has a trial period so you can be good for however long the trial period is, after that maybe you'll be ready to be bad. The dark side is not so bad.

You could also get this awesome philips DVD player that plays just about everything:
Inlcuding DIVX, XVID, and MPEG.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882123002 At 70 bucks, probably one of the single best values, DVD player wise, out there. -bear |
check out the site www.doom9.net for lots of tutorials and free programs.

Your easiest solution is to get a player that can play them in native format, avi, mpeg, divx, etc.
this one It doesn't play wmv but anything else it plays quite well. No need to recode, which can take forever. Wmv files can be converted to avi or mpeg by the way. Shop around, Amazon link is just an example. |
I thought it might be of interest that the DVD player sashime76 and j8ear mentioned (in addition to being the Swiss army knife of DVD players) is Macrovision free out of the box and can also be made region-free to play any DVD. All you need to do is:
1. Turn on the player. 2. Open the tray (you can do this on the remote by holding down stop). 3. Press the following sequence on the remote (for recent firmware versions): 7 8 9 OK 0 4. The number 0 will appear on the lower left side of the screen. 5. The player is now region free! NOTE: The 0 in the sequence above represents the region code. 0 = region free. If you want to change your player to just a specific region code, replace the 0 with the region number you want. |
Thanks NeoRete, I haven't had time to fish around the Net but you got it for me, well, all of us.
