Removing icons from the start menu?

A while back I allowed someone to install AIM on my computer while I was colaborating with them on a group project. Not being someone who uses such programs, I uninstalled after we where done.

However, the "Free AOL & Unlimited Internet" program that was placed at the top of the start menu when AIM was installed has been there ever since. It's in the area above programs that is not editable in the start menu options (That I can find) along with Windows Update and the MS Office icons.

This machine is Windows 2000.
Has anyone had success removing icons and programs that decide to take up residence there?
I can't find anything in add/remove programs, or the start menu options.

I'm not positive this works with Windows 2000, but in XP, you can simply right click and hit delete. I don't suppose the solution would be this easy?

Edit: Just found this. Guess it IS different:
Quote:
Windows 2000
1 Start Menu/Startup -- Right click on Start button
2 Click on Explore All Users or Open All Users
3 Explore All Users takes you into Windows Explorer to the exact place your
startup menu is in your personal profile i.e. C:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs etc…
4 Can add, remove or move programs here for your start menu or startup
5 Note: Might need to check individual user for those programs set specifically to
that userid. Check also C:\Winnt\Profiles\trudep(userid)\Start Menu\Programs for
additional programs.
6 OR Right click on an open area of the taskbar and point to Properties. Click on
Advanced tab. Customize your start menu by using Add, Remove, or Advanced

right click in the tool bar, properties, start menu tab, customize, remove which should open to a tree view and you can remove the offending start menu residents.

Glad to hear the short way works just as well. The second thing I posted seems a little involved just to delete something from your start menu, doesn't it?

Actually, I meant the second peice of advice. Right clicking does not work in Win2000.

But thank you for finding that, it was driving me crazy!

hmmmm I dont get that, I just tested it here at work by installing aim and uninstalling it and I had no problem at all right clicking and deleting the "extra" stuff it added into the start menu....I wonder if it makes a difference that its 2000 NT?

I've never heard of right clicking not working in windows 2000. What's different from the normal configuration on your computer, arch13?
