Quick RAM Question
Hey guys I am in need of advice.
My motherboard supports PC2700 RAM of which I currently have 512MB. I am looking to upgrade to a gig of ram, and my cheapest route(im a college student so cheap = good) is to actually buy a gig of PC3200 RAM. Should I do this, or will it be bad for the RAM/ my motherboard? Thanks in advance |
Obviously won't work in dual-channel mode with the 512MB, but It'll almost certainly be fine. In the rare case of the motherboard using too aggressive latency settings for the old RAM after detecting the new, just swap their positions. If you're taking out the existing PC2700 then it isn't a factor.
Test early so you can return if need be. |
okay thanks...yes I will be taking out the PC2700 before putting in the PC3200 so it seems that everything should work out all right.

just be careful about buying cheap no name brand memory. often no name memory is surplace that didn't meet the standards of quality memory production plants, that's been resold by a dodgy group.
memory is one of the most important parts of the computer, so make sure you have plently, and it's of a good build quality :-) |
