Best Game Cosole?
Well, after resisting for years and years (my last console was an Atari 2600 WHICH I still have) I am thinking of buying another game console.
My friend likes his PS2 but I am curious to get some more opinions. What do you all think I should buy and why? Thanks! |
What sort of games do you want to play on it?
Does online gaming interest you? Will you be buying new or used games? |
youve held out long enough the next generation of consoles is coming out, i do believe they are all backwards compatable so i would just wait another 6 months after you figure out what you want to play.
|
I enjoy adventure type games best. Diablo, WoW, that sort of game. I was an EQ junkie for awhile so I don't think I want to go online with it. (Besides, that's what I have a pc for if I want to.)
|
I think skinnymofo hit it dead on. I'd wait a little longer and get a next gen console. They are backwards compat and M$ is pushing for the 360 to be out by Christmas.
|
your subject reads, "best gaming console?" and you're asking what you should buy since the release of the Atari 2600... I think the answer is simple:
The Nintendo Entertainment System. NES. the orginal, 8 bit. The best video game system ever. That, or something that will allow you to play the Grand Theft Auto series (such as a Playstation 2, or 3 when it comes out) |
even if you're not interested in a next gen console, once those launch you could probably pickup both a ps2 and an xbox for the same price either one of those is currently.
I'd pick a few games that i was interested in playing and then see where they're available or which they play best on. |
Well.. if youre looking to just do some casual gaming ( I see it hasnt been a big deal as your last system was Atari... ) just pick up a gamecube and have a good time. There are some good titles that should keep you having fun alone or with friends for hours. PS2 has terrible graphics and loading times are hell.. Xbox has better graphics but less games to choose from both are going to be a lot more expensive than gamecube..
Really though... hold out until the next gen. Youve gone this long without games - whats a few more months going to do to you? And besides.. by the time they come out you could have saved up the money for it easily. ( And backwards compadibility doesnt hurt the lifetime of the system! ) |
Thanks for the replies everyone!
Just fyi, I am not totally gameless...I've been sticking to my computer for my fix. But it might be nice to have the big screen in the living room to play on. |
Modded Xbox $350
besides the game aspect, the ability to play all the little videos you see online, you can watch on your TV via Xbox Media Center. The other day we streamed Icelandic TV from the internet onto the living room TV. |
save the money add it to what you have stored up already and get a next gen system in the next 8-12 months.
|
i second cyn's idea. modded xbox's not only play games, but it serves as an all round media center. if anything, hold out until the next gen consoles come out and grab an xbox to mod. lots of movies too that you can put on there, however you 'obtain' them. oh yeah, they play emulators too, that means you can play all the classic nes, and snes games as well as most of the big coin-op games too.

If you're into RPG's and strategies and such, then your best bet would be to stick to the PC. As far as console gaming goes, always bet on Nintendo, they won't let you down. The next gen systems will be released in probably a year or so also, so you may save the money and wait for those instead. The Nintendo Revolution is going to be backwards compatable, and it will play every Nintendo game ever made, you can't beat that.
