netgear router doesnt work after switching to dsl

i dont know what the problem is. i am not a networking freak. i switched from cable to dsl. i still have the old router which is netgear. i took out pc and hooked up mac when i changed to dsl. now, the netgear router doesnt work. however, i went back to my old router which is SMC and it works with that. why does SMC work but netgear doesnt? i tried resetting netgear router but that doesnt help. anyone know?

not sure on your connection, pppoe? dhcp? maybe the one router has to be set to a protocol, or is the router trying to connect at all, most show a status like connected or whatever, although if your not talking about internet and you mean file sharing i am way off.

Call your tech support for dsl, they will walk you through this problem easily.

DSL require a username and password to be typed into the router's config page. Since I own a Linksys I can't tell you exactly what this is, however, when I had this prob 3 years ago I called Verizon, my DSL provider, and they walked me through it step by step.

If you still need help after this, email me and I'll walk u through it. Email in my profile.

i called my dsl company and they only helped connecting dsl directly to the computer. they said i would have to call netgear to fix that problem but i forgot to register netgear so they cant help either. i think i will have to get into networking and learn a few things about it afterall. :p

Try Netgear's website. Most sites will have lots of tech support pages just ot keep you from calling because support lines are really expensive to the company.

Before that, get to the config page for your router. Redetect the network settings, etc. If that doesn't do it, there should be a master reset switch on the unit. Might be very small, but grab a pencil and poke that ****er in the eye!

The modem, if it is with sprint, for the dsl will have to be bridged, i have linksys also, but the problem wasnt with the router, it was the modem, earthlink, sprint
