MP3 player with mini-jack input
Ok, so my computer predates several things. The most importiant of these is USB ports. With my last mini-disk player, I had to use one of these:
http://www.dvshop.ca/cables/images/hosaCMM105.jpg I would plug one end in the mini-jack on my computer and the other in the jack on my mini-disk. I would like to get an MP3 player that will let me use the same cable to put songs on it. Is this possible? The MP3 player doesn't have to be fancy, and it doesn't have to have a lot of memory. I mostly want something to listen to on my bike ride into and from work. I lost the old mini-disk player and don't want to get another one because I never really liked mini-disks. Any help? |
There are MP3 players with line-in inputs, but the transfer would be analog and your sound quality would suffer, so it's not really a way to go, and it would take a long time to transfer the stuff. Maybe your computer predates USB, but if it doesn't predate PCI, you can install a USB card.
You can get one for about $10, including shipping, on Newegg If not, here are MP3 player with line-in jacks. They also have standard USB capabilites if you upgrade your computer. |
Iriver H3xx series
Best line in ever. Lets you record in MP3 format at 320 kb/s, sounds pretty good. You'll get better quality with ripping a cd onto the PC then transferring the song onto the player via USB. But if you aren't an audiophile, and really want to use line-in, go with IRiver's H3xx series or even there H1xx series ( don't make them anymore, but you can probably find some on ebay ). And you can put the firmware from Korea on it and play movies on it ;) . Kind of a small screen, but it's fun to rub it in people's faces that you got your mp3 player to play .avi's :p . |

The H340 has a 40-gig drive (which I'd bet is probably too much for you). Consider the H320. |
I'm glad to see some fellow IRiver H3XX owners. I received mine just a little over a week ago. Works great. The screen is beautiful with all it's millions of colors.
