BOINC - you can do SETI, Predictor, Folding, Einstein at home all at once

You guys should update your seti and folding @ home, etc to BOINC

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu

Download BOINC - install. It lets you use your 2nd (or more) processors on the same computer to do more work units.

JOIN TEAM TFProject !!!!!

Yes, your stats will start at zero but being able to use 2 processors on my HT P4 is worth it.

After you download boinc and activate your seti account you get a key that you put into boinc. then boinc downloads the seti software that it runs. it works like this for all of the @home projects.

you can even specify whatever parameters you want to control boinc behavior, from "online" times to how many days worth of work units to download (really useful when SETI's servers go down) to how many processors to use. It's really great. =)

It doesn't look like folding@home is part of BOINC yet. From what I've seen, iy covers:

# Climateprediction.net: study climate change
# Einstein@home: search for gravitational signals coming from pulsars
# LHC@home: improve the design of the CERN LHC particle accelerator
# Predictor@home: investigate protein-related diseases
# SETI@home: Look for radio evidence of extraterrestrial life
# Pirates@home: test for BOINC
# BURP: distributed 3D rendering

You know, you're right - i got folding and predictor confused.

still, it's really cool to be able to use both processors for SETI in windows at once!

i guess this might be as good a place as any to ask this question:

i've just started running setiathome on my laptop. its a Compaq Presario with a 2800+ AMD Athlon XP.

it's completing each work unit in around 5 hours or so, which isnt too bad. the thing i'm concerned about is the CPU temperature. while running my CPU temp will rise above 82 degress C. is that too high to be running setiathome constantly?

and i'm completely confused here right now......

i had an account at setiathome.berkley.edu. there, data units took 5 hours or so to complete.

using the Bionic program....data units take 30 minutes or so to complete.

what the hell is the difference between these two programs?

nevermind....the estimated time to complete keeps rising...
