100% usage spikes?

Okay, I'm at a loss... Every time I open or close something, it spikes at 100%, sometimes for a second, others for 10 seconds. Now the second strange thing is, when I'm windows explorer, and in almost any folder, it spikes at 100%, and stays there? At first I thought the file sharing had something to do with it, since it really only affects those folders I share, and I've disconnected (for now). The speed of my pc is slightly affected by this. So I'm trying to move files, and it's taking forever, since it's a continuous spike at 100%. What else do I need to do? Thanks for the input.

It's an XP SP2, 2.6 celeron with 512 mb ram.

Defrag your hard disk, when my hard disk gets pretty fragged (>20%) it takes a massive time to open folders/right click. Spyware can also cause problems, Adaware works pretty well and there are probably some other free ad removal programs.

The folders that you are accessing wouldn't be full of movies, music, or pictures, would they? When you open up a folder with movies in it, explorer tries to obtain some info from the file (file length, quality and so forth), which might take a while and cause some spikes. There's a "fix" (I'm not really sure if it works) for avi files, which prevents explorer from trying to obtain the information. Tell me if you need it, I have to find the website.

Me too. Kind of.
I believe my KazaaLite2.43 has become corrupted. I dl'd an .avi that was supposed to be episode 19 of lost and it apparently wasn't or it was plus somthing.
I've Spybot'd, AdAware'd and Norton Anti-viruse'd and all come up clean but I cannot delete the above file. I get the "someone or somthing else is using" message. Also, about a third of the files in my Kazaa Shared Folder I cannot open or delete because I get the "cannot find stream" merssage. They used to work.
I have uninstalled KazaaaLite and it seemed to fix the problem because it is the only way I can get rid of the "Lost" file. However, if I reinstall KazaaLite, it also brings back my old shared file with all the same messed up files in it instead of an empty file.

Any ideas on how to delete the "Lost" file or get a clean re-install of KazaaLite?

Here's the website: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1209/

It also has some other nice tweaks for windows, but make sure you know what you're doing when you edit the registry.

tricks: First, try to use the tweak above, restart and try to delete it again. If that doesn't work, restart again, press F8 during boot and select Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Then find your file using cmd and delete it. This works for me all the time. I usually try some other methods beforehand, but this is the most reliable method I know of.

I don't remember, but I think K-Lite has an option during uninstall or install to remove all settings. If it doesn't, you can uninstall it, and then search for kazaa and k-lite on your computer and delete pretty much everything that comes up (make sure you know what you're deleting though). Do the same for the registry (be even more careful with that).

I did the registry edit and it let me delete the file I was trying to delete. I never did get KaazaLite++ to reinstall clean from scratch even using the option on installation. I guess all is well, however.

Thanks
