Computer keeps rebooting in safe mode.

Hi. I'm sorry that I don't have much info re: this situation, but my friend called me up for help and I have no idea what to do. She says that whenever she starts up or reboots her computer, it automatically goes into safe mode. She even chose non-safe mode and it still went into safe mode. Are there any common problems that could possibly affecting her computer? And if so, any remedies? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If it's WinXP, you can hold F8 right after the boot screen and it might give you more options of booting.

First though, I'd try and get to the event viewer in Safe mode. if you can't find it under the control panel > administration tools then type mmc.exe in the Start>Run window and hit enter.
You have to then hit Ctrl+M to add a snap-in. Click ADD in the resulting window and select the event viewer.
Now go through it to look and see why it fails.

There also used to be a choice of booting and making a Boot.log file in Win98, can't recall at the mo if its there in winXP, but the event logs should do the same.

If it is XP home the F8 trick wont work. In safe mode run msconfg and under the boot.ini tab check to see if /SAFEBOOT is checked.

Another possible problem could be corrupted system files. I would check to make sure that she has not installed any hardware recently. Also has she messed with any system files? We really need more information.

If she has recently installed hardware it could not be initializing properly, and causing the system to reboot. Also if system files have been corrupted then you only resort is to reinstall Windows.
