why not straight from adobe?
or you can "purchase" them from a torrent site hahaha. |
If you're currently a student, check your college's store. There should be a Student Edition (or even the normal software) that's a bit cheaper. For example, I went to the online store of a college that's about 30 min from my house.
Adobe's price $649 Their price $299 Yeah... |
|
Over $600 to feed the adobe programmers?
I'll go with the torrent, thanks. :D |
I so did not use Ares, a Kazaa equivalent........
It so does not work perfectly. It so did not come with Imageready and i did not have a bunch of fun with it. Ares is not free and cannot be easily found. It is not P2P so you should NOT be careful. **Note** Please disregard all of the 'Not' s in this reply |
Yeah do what I did. Download the trial version and "extend" it ;). Or if you or someone you know goes to college, you could probably get a huge discount for being a student. I have seen all those college stores selling it for $299.

Maybe we should have a torrent section just like we have a boobies section? or am i too new to know that we already have a torrent section?

Torrents are illegal, and disemanating information about them is refered to as "aiding and abetting" in a court of law. Every couple of months a user here asks why we don't discuss such things like you suggest. And every couple months we have to explain this. If you wish to aquire a peice of software, purchase it and pay the programers who worked hard to create it. Kazzaa, BitTirrent, etc are not acceptable substitues, they are illegal and regardless of your opinion on the state of software costs, they are cheating and breaking the law. A word of warning, if you have youe own business and are caught with illegal software, it is common for law enforcement to revoke your business licsence. If your job requires a proffesional licsence like being a doctor, lawer, architect, accountant, stock trader, etc, you will loose your licsence for life. Often, courts find that a user who stole software should have to pay the equivilent of the purchase price for every year they used the illegal copy, as well as fines. If you are an indivigual who used these programs at home, the fines can come out above $25,000 for illegal use of a copyrighted work. Most repair shops, including big box retailers like best buy and compusa, fry's, etc will quitely report you without your knowledge if they find it while repairing your computer without having to tell you they did. You will simply receive a letter to your home from law enforcment and the software company. You get reported not becuase they don't like you, but becuase you broke the law. Your opinion about the law is not relavent to this. If you can't stomach purchasing Photoshop, go download the Gimp. |

You are misinformed. Torrents are not illegal. A torrent file just holds information. Get your facts straight. They can be used illegally, but are not illegal just being a file. If you're reading this posting, go back and read mike's post above. Easiest was to get several Linux distros is via torrents. |
Cmon people, stop hiding the fact that every single torrent reference in this entire post was illegal based. Yes they can be used legally, and often are. But at no point in this thread were they used legally other then discussion of their legal'ness.

*Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a torrent file just hold a URL for the tracker and (maybe) some information about the file like size and name? |

The tone and purpose of this post was not in reference to the legal uses for this software. Re-read the question and response to the initial posts. Yes, torrents are inherantly legal, but have not been tested in court. Kazzaa/Morpheous will get it's day in court next week. I use torrents for Firefox updates, but the reality is that in it's infancy, the software is being used for illegal purposes as well. That is the topic of this thread. Also, Slavakion: Hosting a torrent that points to stolen software is aiding and abbeting, and is in fact illegal. That has been tested in court, though the ruling was declared not to set precedent. Be honest as to the content of this post. Torrents are a great thing if used legaly, this thread was not about that. |
Another point to remember re use of unlicensed software in the workplace, the anti piracy lobby will reward whistleblowers so if you ever pissed any employee off they cash in on turning you in.

www.newegg.com It's the best place to buy software IMHO.
