Trojan Aftermath Need Help
Ive been trying to get this trojan horse off my computer that was putting all kinds of pop ups on my desktop and it kept changing my Internet Explorer settings. I think we finally have the trojan horse under control, but now IE wont connect to the internet. Ive used other computers connected to the router and they work fine, so its not the modem or router. Does anyone have any suggestions. Pleas be specific as i do not know much about fixing things like this.

There seems to be a problem with our network card. We have tried to reinstall the drivers and the computer wont recognize the network card.

There is some spyware called new.net that if removed in a way other than they prefer, will delete your winsock not allowing you to connect to the internet. This happened to me. You might have to back up your data, and reinstall with a formatted Hard Drive
|
you could have a corrupt winsock stack.
download and run the utility on this page, and thank me later :) http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257 |
NICE! I was hoping someone would make something to that effect.

Ok guys, thanks for your help. I'll try that stuff and hopefully you wont hear from me again.

well, at least come back and let us know if it worked!

sure thing. didnt get a chance to work on it last night, but maybe tonight.

I tried the utility from tacktech.com and it didnt work. My dad told me a few more things that might help figure out what i can do. He said its the network adapter that isnt working. The computer wont recognize it and we cant install the drivers. He says the winsock and the protocol are ok.
He was also wondering if it could be a hardware problem. Is it possible for a trojan horse to actuall mess up the hardware. |
Another option would be to replace the NIC. They can be picked for a s little as $15 in some places. Zipzoomfly.com has them starting at $13.
