Does this exist? (stereo question)

I know that wireless stereo speakers exist. What I want is an adapter that will turn my normal speakers into wireless speakers. In other words, Something that would plug into the back of my normal stereo reciver, the back of my normal speakers and then transmit the signal to them without wires.

Does something like this exist?

It's usually a bit of power to each speaker coming out of the reciever. This power cannot be transmitted wirelessly. It should be possible to set up a mini amplifier for each speaker, maybe using one of those cool little class t amps. But it would probably sound rather crappy if you did it yourself.

Ah ha. Power, of course, stupid me

Thanks.

Yeah. Wireless speakers/headphones are almost always battery powered and just transmit the line level audio signal via radio.

there is such a thing as powered (aka "active") speaker technology. it's usually only for pro or semi-pro gear (studio monitors and large pro speakers), but with these speakers, transmitting wirelessly is slightly easier. maybe.
the speakers still need a power source, which needs to be on the same ground as wherever you're transmitting from, which may or may not require running cables. you may also need to run power for the wireless reciever.
the biggest drawback though, imho, is that you're probably going to loose alot of sound quality transmitting the signal wirelessly.

/end ramble

using good equipment I would expect the sound quality to be as good as an FM receiver or good wireless headphones.

You could find a used power amp and less expensive Philips wireless headphones.
Not IR though!
The xmiter and receiver of the headphones are good and have very low noise.
Forget the "phones" and run the signal(s) to the amp.

Or find a stereo xmiter kit and used receiver (tuner-amp) at the speaker end.

just a thought.

Yeah, that's about the best I'd expect.

If you're still interested, there used to be someone who transmitted over AC lines, using (obviously) the copper there. I'm sure there are some power transformers in line to make it work, which would take the audio quality down another notch. But they are dead simple to use: plug the powered speakers into the wall, turn on. Badabing!
