Other than Itunes - Any suggestions for getting tunes for my Ipod?

OK - still trying to get tunes for my Ipod. I can't use Itunes - computer won't take it. Anyone have suggestions for software for legally downloading tunes that the Ipod will accept? Napster?

Not sure about legal MP3 downloading programs, but you could always rip CDs to your computer..

Apologies if this is blantantly obvious and you are already aware of this method, but I wanted to suggest it, just because I often forget that it's an option when looking for music.

What operating system? As far as LEGAL tunes go, I don't know of any software that'll help you. If you have mp3's of your own and you want to upload them, here's a few suggestions. If you're using linux, gtkpod will be your new best friend. As far as for Windows or OS X, I have absolutely no idea. Try googling for ipod hacks, i'm sure there's something good out there. Good luck!

Are you saying Itunes will not run on your computer and you want to copy music that is on your computer to your Ipod? If so there are third party tools that will "replace" Itunes. One is Anapod http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/ they have a free version you can d/l

Why will itunes not load on your computer? Are you using 98 or 98se? If not i would suggest troubleshooting because Itunes is a great program for downloading legals songs and copying them to your ipod. If not you can always use napster. Real player has a service where you can download songs but they are not playable on the ipod.

I think my 4 year old computer, a dell laptop with a 233 mghx pentium 3 is a little too out dated for itunes. I tried Napster but they don't download songs compatible with Ipod. Someone, other than Itunes, has to offer this?

I will try Sonic Stage and let you know...

I am starting from scratch - no tunes on my computer. I haven't copied anything yet. I just want to find the best way to copy the songs and get them onto the damn Ipod. I will buy the songs if I have to..... Just want to use the freakin thing....

There are dozens of programs out there. And these are some that I have used and mostly liked.
Mlipod for winamp http://www.harrison-fisher.co.uk/mli....php?page=home
Anapod Explorer http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/
Xplay2 http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/
Mlipod is free and does the job although I still perfer iTunes more. As for the other 2 if I were to buy one I'd pick Xplay2. I just perfer the layout more, and for those people that have a mac and a windows computer it will work between both computers.
