Need help please - an easy one for the rest of you
 

Hey everyone,

I need some help with something that you guys may deem basic but I am fu$%ed if I know how to do it:

When I start up explorer it starts in a small window and every link I click on opens in a small window.
I want to be able to click on a link and have an aready maximised page open up (just like the good old days).

Please help me - I have fixed it before but am stuffed if I remember how. I am not stupid, but really starting to feel that way.

While I wholeheartedly agree that you should switch to Firefox, I believe that what you want to do is open IE, resize a window to your desired dimensions, then close it. If I recall correctly, IE "remembers" the size/position of the *last* IE window to close. So after you do that, next time IE pops up (or opens a new window), it should be sized/positioned how you like it.

If not, then you might want to run a spyware check.

Maximizing the window and then closing it and reopening it should have fixed it.

Nope, that won't work. It's a flaw in the windows registry actually. There IS a registry fix out there that you have to go in and do manually, but I can't remember what it is. And even after you fix it it's only a matter of time before it goes back to opening IE small.

I do remember doing the fix a couple times before I wised up and got the Fox - a GIS should turn it up.

the easy way i always learned in 'call for help' its to drag the window to the size you want, and then close it through file> exit rather than hitting the X. you can't just maximise it for whatever reason, but the drag and file > exit seems to work.

1. 'explorer' does NOT necessarily equal internet explorer.
That thing you use to browse through 'My Computer' and your local files and such - the process that runs as 'explorer.exe' ... Is Windows Explorer.
In other words, please remember to qualify the Explorer with Internet or Windows.

2. OK, I use Opera and Firefox for 99.9% of my inet browsing ... and would/do recommend it in some situations...
But jeez people - sometimes it's almost as bad as the 'windows sux - use linux' crap (I like/use/respect both OSs btw) ...

So true... hold down the control key and click on the close box of a window, this will remember the size of it. It's not foolproof - I've had windows "forget" sometimes - but it works well enough. :thumbsup:

btw I'm on xp I don't know how far back this tip works.

I was having the problem i_am_not_worthy described, and this solution fixed it just now. So way to go, lunchbox.

To the Firefox devotees: some of us have to figure things out for IE because we do tech support for all-Microsoft environments.

open a window and click on TOOLS---folder options

then click on VIEW

about 14 lines down the list --put a check mark in front off
REMEBER EACH FOLDERS VIEW SETTINGS..

click APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS

clickon APPLY then OK

SIZE THE WINDOW AND CLOSE IT--IT SHOULD REMEMBER..

Actually this only applies to windows explorer windows, and I'm pretty sure it only applies to the contents of that folder, not the window.

Setting this is definitely useful, however, so that you can have some folders that appear as lists, some that appear as "details" and some that appear as thumbnails.
