Steve Ballmer's Stock

So what do you guys think about him dumping all that stock? He still has a lot left over, but it seems like a lot to dump to me. Is this just an interesting factoid, or a sign of him losing faith in the company? Other thoughts?

factoid.
I'll bet you saw this on fark? I did.
Nah, not to worry. At least in the article I read, they compared him to gateso, who sells stock in small quantities every week or so. This is just simple portfolio management, and nothing more. Liquidate some stock, buy some bonds, tBills, or group of Pacific Islands. Its just smart when you have that kind of money NOT to keep it all in once place. Diversify your dollars!

Actually, slashdot

Anyway, yes, it is fairly regular for them to sell off their stock. Gates has sold off nearly 80% of his stock in recent years.

Who better to know what direction a company's stock is going than the C*O's

As one person said on slashdot,

Quote:
Gates and Ballmer constantly sell shares, ironically at a higher rate since the stock collapse (MSFT used to cost 120$, now it's 50$ (or 25$ after the split)

Microsoft executives know that Microsoft has a lot to lose and not much to gain. The only market where they are strong (the desktop) they have no room to grow, everywhere else they are losing (servers, embedded systems, gaming consoles).

While i find it as susupicious as everyone else, i take comfort in the fact the the SEC was looking into it already before it ever popped up on fark and slashdot, or where i saw it, good old yahoo.
I don't trust those two very much, but Ballmer has never been a good business man and has had some pretty bad failures.
The point remains that they've completed market capitilization and have little expansion left. Now it's a sustain business, much like phone service is. Not new products, just mainyed service of existing ones.

He dumped 39.3 Million shares.
He still has 432 Million shares. Thats shares not dollars people.

As said before this is just simple diversification of hif portfolio. Some analyists seem to be overanylizing this. He only sold ~9% of his stake in microsoft, and by todays standards his portfolio is still EXTREMELY undiversified.
