Connecting two computers with USB?
I want to connect two computers and have a male-to-male USB cable. Can I connect using this? Will it work, or will I screw something up?
|
You can, but i beleave your going to need some software that allows the 2 systems to "see" eachother. but just pluging in the cable will do nothing.

If speed isn't a huge issue for you, and you don't want to shell out $40 for a USB file-transfer cable, you could always use a null-modem cable. You can buy one for under $10, or build one if you have the parts available (its only four wires, and pinouts are all over the 'net). I haven't actually set up a null-modem network connection since Win98, but I presume that it can be done in Win2k or WinXP. The basic premise is that you connect the serial ports on your two systems with a null modem cable. You can then link the computers with a 115kbps connection. In Win98 I was able to access file shares, share an internet connection, etc. all without network cards or a network.
Google around for more info if you're interested. |
I don't think that would work as easy as you think....you could buy a couple of cheap network cards and go that route....or firewire to firewire is the greatest yet..

not sure if theres a way to do this with PC's, but i know with 2 macs, if you conect them with a firewire cable, and boot one up and hold T it boots it as portable hard drive to the other computer.

if you already have a router, merkerguitars is right, it would be much faster than usb (5 maybe 6 mps) Networked ( 10/100 even 10/100/1000 now.
