The future of CG rendering???
Placed it here as its not really fitting into many other forums
Is this the future or is it only scratching the surface http://www.this-wonderful-life.com/gallery.htm http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...odycamroom.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...odycamroom.jpg |
Wow, those are some pretty impressive renders. Have you seen Final Flight of the Osiris or Final Fantasy: Spirits Within? Both are pretty impressive in their renderings of characters. At moments during each movie, I had to stop and remind myself that they were CG characters and not real people.
I know certain directors are pushing heavily for replacing human actors with CG elements (Lucas, for one), but I think the cost is still prohibitive. But as costs go down, we'll see more and more of this happening. This short looks well done, I'd be interested in seeing the way these characters are animated. You're right about this topic not fitting in many forums. This could easily go under artwork, entertainment, or even philosophy (for discussions on the Uncanny Valley). Anyhow, thanks for posting this. |
Wow, very impressive. Like FngKestrel, I'd also like to see it animated. Often what looks great in a CG still image just doesn't imitate natural movement at all.

Absolutely. There will be a real "Simone" before you know it. 3D software keeps getting better and better and the hardware required to do really impressive work become more obtainable as well.
Go look at Poser 5 and Shade 7 at http://www.curiouslabs.com and also look at ZBrush at http://www.pixologic.com. The renders coming from those packages are just incredible. ZBrush models were used in Return of the King. Also, go by http://www.renderotica.com (free signup required), http://www.zbrushcentral.com, and http://www.3dcommune.com and view some of the galleries. Excellent stuff. I've been looking at them for a few years. Words can't describe the realism captured by many of the artists who post on those sites. 3D rocks. Cruise by renderotica and take a gander at some of the renders over there. Also, |
check out the web site, there are some of the animated tests, it is stunning.

Ah, so there are. I clicked on gallery initially and got sidetracked there. :D
But yeah, in the motion stuff is pretty good. There's still one or two movements that seem a little stiff or awkward, but the eyes are done really well and most of the subtle movements shown in test 3 are excellent. |
