SpyCop

Has anyone used this software for detecting key logging software?

Dvorak from PC Mag recommends it but before I go out and spend the $50 I'd like to see if anyone here has any feedback.

I do PC consulting and for the first time I've had people start asking about key loggers on their machines.

Before spending money on commercial software, I would check out some of the rathe robust free and shareware apps first. Right now I am using AdAware and SpyBot together, and when a friend of mine brought over some commercial stuff (two products, sorry but I can't remember the names) to try they found no no adware, spyware or malware on my computer.

However, if you are looking for an enterprise solution, it may be quite feasible to test and purchase supported software. Sorry about the long response that, in fact, doesn't even answer your question, but I just thought I would kick in my $0.02 worth on the subject seeing as how I have a solution on my local computer at home that works.

By the way, AdAware does have a prefessional version that does cost money, but as far as I know they do not detect spyware or bots, just adware.

Good luck,

Peace,

Pierre

Yea I use AdAware and Spybot S&D for typical spyware removal. At this point I'm only interested in SpyCop for it's key logger detecting abilities.

Another potential problem, then, would be key logging hardware. These are very difficult to detect using software, and although it's true that someone would actually require physical access to the computer for this to work, it is not outside the realm of possibility. Of course, visual inspection can easily detect these.

As well, I did some research on SpyBot S&D, and they do detect a number of Key Loggers, but I thikn they are more interested in the spyware and covert installed software. There are some fairly sophisticated key logging software out there available commercially that may not be detected. Still, as mentioned above, someone would need physical access to the computer and, in this case, also requiree userid/password to log into the workstation. I am assumming, of course that this business actually takes security seriously enough to maintain required logins on all workstations.

Again, I can't offer anything on SpyCop because I have not seen it in action personally, but after you mentioned it I did some research and found several positive reviews about it. It might be the solution for you.

Good luck,
Peace,

Pierre
