"Most craptacular pc story"
So, we've all done it. Computers built in cardboard boxes, sitting on the living room table, etc.
What's the most pathetic "case" you've ever used? Me, I had a file server that was housed loosely in a pizza box...complete with 1 slice of cold, half-eaten pizza. Anyone else? |
I had a hard drive duct taped to my old case for awhile, does that count?
|
case...
who said anything about a case? i just have random shiz sitting around... |
hehe, mpedrummer2, that is fuckin great.
hmmm. can't think of any unusual cases, but i have definitely housed my hardware on the bedroom floor before. i've built my own lighting contraptions (for the case lights) and things like that. my HD light was once a nice blue bulb. ended up being kind of annoying though. one time had to reconstruct one of the black plastic ends of an IDE ribbon cable out of duct tape (from a removable bay) ummm.... |
hmm, I dont think ive ever done anything as crappy as a pizza box.. If it is anything somewhat permanent then it is either in a wooden or a metal enclosure..
if it is temporary (a few days maybe) then it is usually a scattering of parts laying across various flat surfaces. i think you have most of us beat with the Pizza box ;) i would have liked to have seen that. |
Hopefuly the pizza didn't stay there for long. mold is bad.
|
No, I think we ate it.
|
the pizza box thing is great... if you wanna see truly crap ass cases/mods check out www.afrotechmods.com some great stuff their....
anyway i have seen "cases" one guy who had his gear bolted to his celing onthey guy made case out of old celing tiles and used a incodecent Lightbulb as a case lite |
If you use a case at all, you're out of the running.
Many a time have I assembled CarpetPC(tm). |
I screwed the motherboard and all other components to the ceiling of my wardrobe when I was tired of the noise. That was the ftp-server though.
|
shit strewn flat on my dining room table -- who needs a case?
most of my computers have a very short life -- I throw random stuff together all of the time, mostly testing their usability |
While I have never run a computer out of a pizza box before, I do keep all the parts except for the case and PSU in the refigerator when I am cleaning the case out because all the dust in my house. They are are out the way, remain clean, and won't get anything place upon them in there.

TOILET CASE!
I work at a local computer shop, we had to replace a toilet a couple years back and its been sitting around doing nothing. Just last week someone dropped off an old Dell WEBPC (p3 600) just fine for browsing the net.
So were gonna use the tank to mount the PC in, and use the bowl as a beer/soda cooler. And make the flusher thingy hook up to the reset switch somehow so when u flush it reboots the PC :) We're having one of our customers come in and cut a custom hole in the tank for a 15" LCD. Its the ultimate ghetto mod :D |
That's definately "crap"-tacular.
|
hmm... this count?

I was going to say no it doesn't, until I looked a little closer...and realized that it's a PC in a Mac case, not a Mac running windows, like I initially thought.
However, it's not crappy. It's cool. So no, it doesn't count after all. :) MPEDrummer |
saw a lego case once,
that was some tight shit. tried to paint my case with cheap spraypaint onceupon a time. it turned out butt ugly.... |
