...there doesn't seem to be a way to save playlists to a Carbon from Mac iTunes. Or is there?

I've been using Rio Music Manager (XP-only app) to create the .m3U playlist file, then transferring the file to iTunes over a LAN. The resulting playlist always seems to be missing songs.

Anyone know of a workaround? Or is there a way to save playlists to a Carbon from another Mac app perhaps?

There's a lot of possibilities out there, so instead of trying to figure out exactly which one fits you, check out Google Search: itunes m3u playlist. Some solutions are Mac-based, others are Windows-based.

I tried google under different search criteria. The best I could do with your kindly supplied list was to output a iTunes playlist in .xml format, then have it converted to a .m3u file format (which all has to be done online at a website, not locally on my mac!). When I import the .m3u index file to the Carbon (with all associated music files) and try to play it, there are no music files associated with the playlist. In short, the playlists are empty.

I see a bunch of Applescripts available (for example, Export iTunes Playlist to M3U or Copy Playlist to Card); it looks like what you would need, but I haven't tried any of them.

Also, according to Rio Audio : iTunes,

God forbid Apple ever integrates something like this into iTunes...what a pain in the ass just to export a playlist to anything but an iPod...the plug-in on the Rio site simply allows the rio player to show up in the iTunes source column for simple drag & drop file transfer (something one can do manually in the Finder)...it won't export playlists.

The Copy Playlist to Card AppleScript was the only thing that worked for me under Tiger, and it worked like a charm. Not only did it create the .m3u playlist file, but it copied over all the associated music files as well. Fucking awesome.
