Removing myself from MSN Messenger Contact Lists
I rarely use MSN Messenger, so I was surprised to see this morning the list of people who have added me to their contact list. These are people who have added me to their list without any authorization.
I did not add these peope in a drunken stupor or anything of the sort... actually, a few of these MSN contacts do not end in @hotmail.com (I don't know if that's required or not). Regardless, I would like to know if I can have myself removed from others' contact list? This is different from a block (which I have already done as I don't want to get instant message SPAM from these contacts)... this is : Tools -> Options -> Privacy (tab) -> View... button . Is there any way to have myself forcibly removed from contact lists? |
I don't know that you can. How did they add you in the first place, without your OK? From what I remember with MSN, you get a message saying JoeBlow@hotmail.com would like to add you to his contact list, is this OK? And you click yes or no.
Beyond blocking, which you've done, I'm not sure what else you can do. Maybe send an email to their helpdesk/support and see what they have to say. |
Well I was either using a Jabber client, Miranda or something similar, so there's no telling how they react to authorization requests.
It's a real PITA, and I don't want to create another Hotmail address just to start from a clean slate. :( |
hmmm i don't think its possible to remove yourself from other peoples contact list
once you are on their list your basically on it for good untill they delete you your best chance is to just stay invisible from them....as you siad you already did |
Maybe they are your friends, one of them gave your address to many others... And they do not have to end in hotmail.com.
|
you can block people from sending to you as well.
|
Any address can sign up for a .NET Passport, which is then used for MSN. I use my own webmail address for the login. Hotmail accounts come with the passport thing, as well as msn.com and similar.
|
If you use the 'official' MSN client, you can go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy. From here, you can see who has added you to their contact list and block 'em.
