All I want to do is play some playstaion...

So my setup is...

One small colour tv. Magnavox. Only input is for the one wire cable. This is where my problem starts. To hook my playstation up to it I need three connectors of the white yellow and red variety. So I think to myself, "Lets use the VCR to hook the two up!" They get hooked up but I find myself lacking a 'video' mode on my very old Magnavox. There is no TV/VIDEO button on the TV and I do not have the remote anywhere. Am I fucked or is there still hope for late night playstation binges?

I think if your going into the RF in your video you just have to tune it in. You don't need to be on an AV channel. This is of course, if you can tune in your tv without a remote.

Or do u already know this and i'm stating the obviously. Either way man, time to invest in a new tv.

Fuck getting up to change the channel.

You say you have the video from the playstation going into the VCR. You have the coaxial cable connecting the VCR to the TV. So far, so good.
On the rear of the VCR there should be a switch that says "CH. 3 - CH. 4" or similar. Set the switch to the channel where you think there will be less interference from a local broadcast channel. Tune your TV to the channel you selected and set the VCR to the video input. This varies by manufacturer, but may be called video in, or channel 00 or ??? check the manual.
You should now be in business. If the picture is bad try changing the "CH. 3 - CH. 4" switch to the other setting and change the TV to match.

"get a new tv......"

Sometimes the simplest answer is the wisest.

Seriously dude, new tv's are so cheap now. You can even buy a used one for dirt cheap with AV input... oh and a tv/video button. :P

If you don't want a new TV, you could try finding an RF converter. I'm assuming this is what you mean by the "one wire." I have to use this for both my Sega Genesis and Atari 2600 (laugh at me and die. Old school kicks ass :) ).

You end up turning to channel three, then throwing a switch on the converter. It kinds degrades the audio/video quality.

Yeah, assuming you're running the coax out of your VCR into your TV, set the TV to channel 3, and power on the PS and VCR. If nothing happens, check your TV/VCR settings on the VCR itself. If nothing still happens, try channel 4 and repeat.

If still nothing happens, then get a new TV. =)

Oh, and make sure you've got the PS RCA cables running into the "In" jacks on your VCR. Easy to screw up when they've got "In" and "Out" right next to each other.
