GMail related.. What do you do with your "read" mail?
 

Like many of late, I've made the switch to GMail, and while I do like it a lot, I'm curious about one aspect of it and how you all deal with it..

I used to use Yahoo Mail, and when I read a message I would either delete it, or more likely, move it to a folder. With GMail, it seems there isn't the option to move the messages to a folder, and that makes me wonder what you do with messages when you are done reading them?

I kind of like to have my main "Inbox" screen clear and not filled with a list of past messages, but since Google doesn't have folder support, how can one achieve this.

Also, if when using a label, does the message still stay in the main inbox, or is it moved somewhere else?

archive button at the top... and a delete button does exist, your just not looking hard enough

I just archive my stuff after it has been read, that way your "inbox" screen looks nice and clear just the way you like it ( I do too).

To delete a message, open it up and choose "More Options" it's over on the right, that will show you an option to trash it.

I put a label, then archive it. It keeps my inbox empty and lets me easily find what I need.

The beauty of gmail is in the labels. Just think of them as folders with the added benefit of being able to put a message in multiple folders without taking up space. Once you label a message with one or more labels you can archive them and they will no longer be in your inbox, but will be under the label(s) tab you designated for the message.

It depends on what the email is.

I trash thread post notifications and some mail that isn't something I'll ever have to refer to again.

Some conversations I'll archive. Order confirmations/cancellations, I tend to archive. I've used about 30 MB so far, so it really isn't a big deal yet.

I've used the email search several times. I think that it's damned handy.

So far I've left everything on ... just for the kicks of it.
I'm a fan of the Search function in finding related messages.

I label my mail then archive it. Gmail rules.

The whole power of gmail is that your whole email history is searchable. Labels are one great tool for that, as is the content of the mail itself.

Just archive it and forget it. That's why you've got all that disc space.

I do absolutely nothing with the e-mail in my inbox. Then again I am a bit of a masochist and do the same for all of my e-mail accounts. :eek:
The difference is that gmail actually lets me search my e-mails.
