Computer Restarts Randomly
Okay, I've been having this problem for a while, but now I'm able to consistantly get my computer to restart "randomly" whenever I try to load a DCC transfer in MIRC (or other high traffic stuff..I believe it happens in other situations but this is the only way i can 100% guarentee it crashes). I know its not a virus, as I've gone through all of the anti-virus stuff, and I have no idea how to fix it. I disabled the auto reboot and now when it BSOD it ends up giving me a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error-type thing (0xd1 i believe). Ive tried reinstalling drivers, ripping out the card and putting it back in, and have run memtest to check the memory (which was fine)...I know its not blaster or any of those..This is really buggin the crap out of me, so if anyone has any ideas..please!

If I were in your situation, I would just reformat. I don't think it would BSOD because of hardware. If it still BSOD's after you format, even though my instincts tell me that a format would fix it, I would check your PSU for defects.

If you can give us the exact stop value (oxoo etc), that would help.
Also, what version of windows are you using? This is a stop message link that may be able to help you also. http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm |
On Windows XP with a Linksys net card
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x000000D1 (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000004) |
i'm getting this kind of problem on a machine that i'm trying to fix for a friend. i've checked the event viewer (on XP), and the problem is an ACPI illegal-write caused by the BIOS. microsoft's suggestion --- check the manufacturer for a BIOS update.
needless to say, that because this is an older slot-1 board, it didn't work. so i'll be looking for a new motherboard.... this might be what you need to do. but check your "event viewer"! |
Well..i went ahead and after trying everything i could think of I bought a new net card (which was obscenly expensive on campus) and it solved the problem. Makes me wonder if the nic card was bad or the drivers were just having a problem.

I would have tried either updated or older drivers. sometimes new drivers will fock with the card. if that didn't work, then I would have suggested a new NIC.
I hope you didn't pay more than 20 bucks TOP for that card you bought.. |
