Anyone else use newsgroups?
 

When I first got my cable modem I received unlimited free newsgroups and it was awesome downloading anything I wanted but incomplete posts and header downloads where a pain in the ass. Well Comcast took over and I was without newsgroups for a few years. I recently signed up for an unlimited account with giganews and I can't believe how much of an improvement there is.

NZB files eliminate header downloads and par2 files will fix any incomplete posts. I was just wondering if anyone else has a newsgroup subscription or if anyone still receives a subscription through their ISP and how do you enjoy it.

I get good newsgroup access through Verizon. It works well enough that I haven't needed to get a subscription from a diff newsgroup provider.... and it's also unlimited newsgroup access. This is prob one of the few good things most people will say about verizon tho.

I've collected most of my 1.5 million pics off usenet. It's just so easy to go into a.b.p.erotica and queue up 35000 (no I didn't add a zero) pics and wake up with them all done. Just be careful when you do that as you will eventually get things you didn't want to have.

Yes I download from newsgroups. I have my main cable ISP with a fast server with not too much retention. Then there's an account with another ISP with a (artificially) slow server with a good retention. Between the two I can download pretty much everything.

I do not download pictures anymore, though - too many crap pics to download to get one decent one. I prefer movies (porn or not), games, music and utilities.

I get one through Comcast and giganews but only 1 GB down and 2 up a month
but it works good except its allmost 200 mb just to download headers some times LOL

I have been on usenet since olden times... I can find old posts as far back as 1995.

I had comcast before they fucked away the usenet and the dumped them for dsl when they pissed me off. I moved a couple years ago and tried them again and then immediately dumped them after realizing that they'd crippled their internet offering with that damned 1GB cap.

1GB per month? WTF is that? Hell. It's easy to DL 6GB on a weekend. I don't keep much, perhaps, but there are often gems there!

I prefer to use a third-party usenet povider that offers an SSH usenet portal, though, rather than verizon. I costs about $23 a month, but I consider it well worth the expense.

I pay for access through NewsHosting.com. The newsgroup selection through my university blows.

So are there newsgroups that seem to get good quality TV shows posted to them? My cable sucks and there are a few shows I've missed. I've been thinking of getting an easynews account and seeing if I can d/l any of them..

I haven't been on them in forever, just remember all the crappy stuff, pics you really didn't want to see, and incomplete files there used to be...
