You are talking about ver 1.0? I think I'll wait a few weeks before I change from 0.9 to 1.0, since it's still working pretty good as is.

I'm running 1.0PR and so far, so good. Most of my extentions ported over without problem. I havent had any stability issues, and have been satisfied thus far.

Once again, anyone having issues or questions about Firefox, feel free to drop them in this thread. We'll take our best shot at fixes for you.

I'm using it now, and it seems to run w/o a hitch. Not sure I like the RSS implementation though.

Ditto. But I really like the new "Find In This Page..." implementation. It docks a Find bar at the bottom of the window and... well... check it out next time you're searching for a term in a large article.

Have they implemented a decent download manager yet?

The one in Opera shits all over that provided by Firefox. One of the very few reasons I left FF and came back to Opera.

Its getting better. It now has a button which opens your download folder to view the files, a "clean up" button which clears all the finished/stopped downloads. As for its little quirks when you click on different types of links, i havent used it enough to find out yet. They obviously see it has room for improvement since they did make some changes to it.

One thing that still isn't perfect is installing over an old version. I installed over my 0.8 just for kicks, and then my back-forward buttons didn't work. Deleting the old directory and profile fixed things just fine (the profile had to be deleted, not just renamed). It's a good idea to upgrade if you can because the new version contains that bug fix for the overflow exploit.

Most of the extensions work OK, but I am still waiting for some to be updated.

The Update Arrow button didn't work properly for me when I clicked on it: it just seemed to timeout without actually timing out. But going into the extensions menu and pressing the Update button did work.

One more thing that's giving me some trouble is that this new PR version is having even more problems (than 0.8) restoring the proper position in the page when you press the Back Button. I've been told it may just be my system or something because not everyone is having this problem.

Overall I like it because it is MUCH faster than 0.8 at rendering.

Has anyone looked at the memory footprint yet? Does PR use as much RAM as the previous versions?

I don't think that RSS should be handled by the browser directly; it just doesn't make sense to me. I use Bloglines, which is free and web-based, so I can follow the same feeds from home or work.
After 1.0 is final, future upgrades are expected to maintain a profile properly. There have been some significant profile changes since 0.8, so I'm not surprised it borked on you.
If you don't want to wait, there's a workaround. Type 'about:config' in your URLbar, and change the preference app.extensions.version to 0.9.
Yeah, the Update mechanism isn't completed yet.

The new find is a significant improvement over the old one. I really missed the highlight function that google's toolbar had (and I refused to clutter up my firefox window with another toolbar just for highlight). I kind of miss being able to just start typing and find things, but the new implementation is much more robust. I like it.

If I understand what you are saying you miss being able to just start typing on the page and having it finding words for you..

go to Tools -> Options -> Advance -> Accessiblities

should see an option to turn it on

If anyone is still in need of update extensions for 1.0pr, go here. They have a ton of 'em.

Also, someone mentioned problems installing one version over another. For what it's worth, I installed 1.0pr directly over 0.9 with no problems at all.

Does it support Java without that annoying Java side program yet?

Um, I don't quite understand the question. Do you mean "does Firefox need to have a Java program installed", the answer is yes, just like it needs to have Flash, Shockwave, Quicktime, etc. to view those media types. No browser has that "built in".

Do you need help getting your Java to work with Firefox?

Well, currently I'm running 0.9.2 and every time I come across a page with Java on it, it shows a "click here to get the plugin" marker, even though I already have it installed (Java 2 runtime environment), and in order to get it to work, it has to launch a Java program which runs in the background.

Just thought i'd add a little note about the java plugin to realign the blame currently being put onto firefox.

All browsers don't have their own java engines. Even internet explorer which comes with windows runs java applets with microsoft's own java virtual machine which is getting a bit behind the times now (they've discontinued it). This means that in order to run the most up-to-date java applets embedded in webpages you still need to download the latest java plugin or java runtime environment for any browser that you use. This is the "Java program which runs in the background".

They are working to improve the Plugin acquiring experience. There's supposed to be a new patch in today's nightly build (which isn't out yet). You could try 1.0PR1, but I don't think it'll be much help for you in this case.

But it rocks, of course :p. Seems even more responsive than earlier builds.

AND the first post (mine).

Under the options you have the choice to "Ask me where to save every file" or "Save all files to this folder".

I have "Save all files to this folder" selected, but it still asks me where I want it saved. So what exactly does this feature do?

I'd like to get it to the point that I can right click -> Save Link as... and have it automatically download all the files I've selected.

I think that the 'save all to this folder' function affects left-click saves, and allows you to override it with right-click; however, I don't use this one, so I'm not sure.

Hmm, I don't think this is true. It usual just opens the file when I left click, not save.

I'm liking this new version.
