Hello,

I am trying to connect my wireless enabled windows xp laptop to a wireless server at work. It's not happening and apparently it's to do with the fact that the server is an Airmac.

I was wondering if this is a problem that someone knows how to solve as I can't find anything about it online.

I think you may be SOL depending on which OS the airmac is running under. If they have OS X, then they should have Appletalk enabled. If that's the case, it can be done. You'll have to talk to your sys admin.

I've connected my PowerBook to many a "non-Apple" access point and it's fine. The same in reverse. Here are some things to try:

1) Determine if the access point is transmitting at B or G or B/G. If the AP is working in G but your laptop is B, you may see it but not connect.

2) Determine what type of security is enabled on the AP. WEP, WAP, etc.

I'm assuming you mean the Apple AirPort (or AirPort Extreme) when you say "airmac." The Airport is nothing more than a B or B/G access point - nothing is proprietary to Apple except perhaps the optional USB print server attached to many AirPorts.

Every new-ish Mac I've seen is working on TCP/IP and not AppleTalk. However, if your IT dept enabled AppleTalk only (not sure why) then you'd have an issue.

Put a call into your IT people - they should answer your questions.
