Computer Problem: Symptoms include monitor not working

Here is the problem, I returned to my computer last night to notice that there was nothing displayed on the monitor. I restarted my computer and still nothing comes up on the monitor. The computer sounds like it is booting normally because it spins up the hard drives and cd rom drives but nothing is ever displayed on the monitor. Today I tried a different monitor and a second video card. Still the same problem exists.
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Computer Specs:
Windows XP Home
AMD XP 2200
AAzza KT400 motherboard
Geforce 4 Ti4600
Sound Blaster Audigy

My guess is that your motherboard is deceased.

Wait for a second opinion though, i was never great with hardware :|

I would also say that the motherboard is failing.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking along the same lines but I didn't want to go around buying new parts if I didn't have to. The second question I have is what motherboard should i purchase. I was looking at newegg and they have some quite inexpensive boards but I am hesitant because I don't want to be doing this in another 6 months when the board dies.

Try your video card in a different slot (assuming its not agp and you have another free slot)

Does it beep while booting? You don't mention it, so I have to ask.

The beeps are a bit of self diagnostics. The machine is doing a self test during start-up. If the beeps don't happen, then you board is most likely fried. If it has changed... a long and two short beeps instead of just one... then it is something else. Your MoBo owners manual can give you info on the beeps.

About which MoBo to purchase depends on your CPU. First place to start is at the website of the CPU manufacturer. They will have a "Suggested MoBo" list for use with your chip. Make sure you check that list first. Otherwise, unforseen conflicts can arise.

Good luck.
