Processor Issues
 

I recently upgraded to an XP2500+ Mobile and an Asus A7N8XE -Deluxe.

On my old motherboard I had the processor clocked to a stable 2.4Ghz, with the new board, I cant even get it to run stock speeds. The highest I can get it is at 1.67Ghz. Bear in mind Im running 266Mhz DDR Ram because I cant afford to upgrade, and I have been overclocking by upping the multiplier.

Is the jumper on the motherboard flipped to the correct FSB (133)? Mobiles run at 133 MHz FSB instead of 166 like the XP Barton cores. There might be a little switch on the board that needs to be set to 133. If that's not the case, I'd change the FSB in BIOS to 133 and set the multiplier so it's at 1.83 GHz. If that doesn't fix it...who knows!

In addition to physical switches on the MB you might also check your BIOS settings. There is an option in mine to change the clock speeds. By defaut my Athlon2400+ only ran at 1.5Ghz (if I recall correctly).EDIT...I now see that Lasereth already said this...oh well. My warning below is still valid.

Just be careful with the changes, I had 5 or 6 different options for the FSB in the BIOS, one made it run at 1.5 one made it run at 1.9 (the right one) and the rest cause the machine to fail during boot, which meant I had to flash the BIOS to reset it.

Yes, the FSB is set correctly, and the problem is that the default speed which is 1.83 ghz causes the processor to fail and run at 600Mhz...
I cant use any multiplier higher than 12.5.
