Mac and PC....some threads got me thinking...

has anyone ever tried to install MacOS onto a PC with standard PC components? If I had the MacOS I'd give it a shot, but I don't..

I would LOVE to try a macOS, but I refuse to pay the ridiculous amount for their hardware, when I could get a compatible PC for 400 bucks if I wanted to.

I'd be curious to know if anyone tried it, and what kind of results you got...

Only way to run Mac OS on PC is with PearPC: http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/

PCs and Macs use two completely different processors - it's more than a matter of it being different software.

I have not had a chance to try PearPC but I plan to. Either way, it's emulation, so it's not worth using it as a Primary OS solution.

yeah I know, but I was still curious to see what, if anything, happens when you boot a pc with a macOS disk.

PearPC is good to know, thanks!

No legal way to run mac OS on a PC. Apple made sure of that right off the bat. As for people who...um...don't care for limitations, i suppose you could. Emulators.com advertises an OS 8 emulator, but most people want OS X. Mac operating systems are designed for PowerPc based computers. And no, IBM Workstations and servers with PPC processors wont work. I wouldn't reccomend an emulator. If you want to try Mac operating systems, go to a computer store. As far a Macs being a little expensive, yes. So are Porsches and Mercedes. But, an eMac with a 1.25 GHz G4 processor, 17-inch flat CRT display, 40GB Ultra ATA drive, 256MB of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM, combo drive (cd burn/dvd read), ATI Radeon 9200 graphics w/32 DDR video memory, two firewire 400 ports and three USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet and 56K V.92 modem, and AirPort and bluetoothe ready for $799 is one hell of a deal. I personally have this computer, except with the 80GB hard drive, a superdrive ( cd burn/dvd burn), and a gig of ram.

if you want to get a used mac, try craigslist or
http://www.retrobox.com

used pc's, some macs.... stock varies...

other than that, you could TRY to achieve pc-macness by using the various themes available (XP), and using flyakite's v6 software.... i have it running on a spare computer and it's the closest thing to a mac you can get on a pc... pretty sweet, though!

i'll be getting a 15" powerbook sometime this month, so i'm reeeaaaallly stoked about that.

very good choice. I don't know if its worth it to spring for the 80GB hard drive, but the gig of RAM is so freaking worth it. It goes up to 2 gigs now, but that might be overkill. Are you getting th 1.33 G4 or the 1.5?

i've got three grand available for this purchase, so i'm constantly reconfiguring my purchase... i really want to get an ipod and some software, so i'm still trying to work out which powerbook. but of course, i'm leaning toward the 1.5. ;-)

oh, by the way, continuing from my previous post:
flyakite v6.0 is a system file replacement doohickey that makes an sp1 xp pc function and look more like a mac. get it here:
http://osx.portraitofakite.com/

it's uber-cool.
