.eps file?
 

So... anyone know what it is?

My brother ordered a bar code online, and they emailed him an attachment that was, supposedly, something.eps. First off, I have no idea what that is.

Second, and more importantly, I don't think he actually got it. When he tries to download the attachment, all that comes up is a .html file that has the text of the email in it. As far as I can tell, the .eps never got attached...

However. Also in the text of the email, it says that it is a MIME message. I know I've seen that before, but I'm buggered if I have any idea what it means. Could that have anything to do with the problem?

Another thing is that he's using a web-based email program, rather than a pop3 email. I told him to setup his pop account, but I'm not sure whether he's tried that yet, or if he insists on using webmail. Again, could that be causing the problem? Could the webmail client be refusing the attachment for some reason?



Sorry about the jumble of questions, but I haven't had a chance to look at it myself yet, so everything I know is second hand. Thanks for any help.

Photoshop will open it. Illustrator would handle it better.

Don't really know what to tell you with the email issues.

check the 'Content-Type' header. If it's 'multipart/mixed' the message should have a binary attachment.

You could always get him to forward the entire message to you, that should include any attachment/s.

i thought an eps file was what was used when u created a vpn connection and the packets where called eps...i'm prob way of the mark....

If the eps file isa attahced, here's what you can do: Save the attachment to your desktop (if you're running Windows). Then hold down the LEFT shift key, and RIGHT click on the file. This will bring up a menu, that'll have "Open With" on it..click on that, see if there's a default program. If not, click CHoose program, select a graphics viewer that your system has (photoshop, Windows Picture Viewer, whichever). You can also click on the "always use this program to open files of this type" which'll set set the program you choose to always use that program when you double click on an EPS file.
