The best CMS?
What's the best free content management system that you know of? Anything you could recommend? I've used phpNuke before, but there must be others out there...

Depends on what you want to do with it. Every one of them does things differently, and some do certain things better than others.
For just a weblog type deal, I prefer Wordpress. If you are looking for a full-blown CMS, zope/plone is probably what you want. There are hundreds of choices in between. You can even write your own basic one if you want, there isnt that much to a simple one. |

I would suggest going to CMSmatrix.org and looking there. A wealth of information is presented to you about all the different CMS systems out there.

I've used PostNuke a few places. It was easy to setup and there are lots of modules to extend the functionality.

I'm a programmer by hobby and career.
In my mind, there is nothing good enough. I always have the desire to create something that is my own. That way you can create it and change it any way you want. It is pretty easy if you'd like to create a sijmple journalling system. A few pages of PERL or PHP would make it very easy for you to update. Hrm, now that I remember: The first incarnation of my journal was a simple 300 line PERL script that grabbed text files from a directory, parsed them and displayed their contents within customizable templatese complete with variable substitution, very much like Bloxsom and Diary-X are like today. |

My favorite CMS is e107. It does have a few security holes but they are going to fix them(the known ones) in the new release due out in the near future.

Mambo Open Source is the best for me. Very user friendly and easy to set up.

It could have changed and the problems could have been fixed, but I ended up writing my own anyways :D |
I personally like Drupal. It's very easy to install and is very customizable. I have one site running on it, forums.ahpnational.org. I've written a few custom modules for it now so it's what I'm sticking with at this point.
