What FireFox extensions are you using?
I just saw the lonnngg FireFox thread, and decided to make a new post.
FireFox has an insane list of extensions, here are a couple that I recomend: - Web Developer (for anyone into web designer) -MiniT (allows dragging of tabs) Another thing I love about FireFox is the Search Engines. I have Ebay, Packetnews, register.com, php.net and dictionary.com added. FireFox also has pretty cool skins, I'm currently using Noia 2.0 Extreme. FireFox Extensions |
Show Failed URL (which should be fixed in Firefox)
Blanklast (when you close the last tab, it just blanks the last tab rather than closing the browser) miniT (scroll wheel on the tabs to switch tabs, and some other stuff) Add Bookmark Here (if you have used Opera, you will like this one) undoclosetab (self-explanatory. You can use about:config to increase the number of tabs to a higher value) Linky (great for TGPs) Nuke Anything (if there's an annoying bit on the screen, just erase it!) Make Link (automates the creation of links on a forum posting) BBCode (makes bolding and other stuff easier) Tabbrowser Preferences (makes the tabs work MUCH better) SpellBound (a spellchecker) That's today; I might have a different list tomorrow. |
Flash Click-to-Play. Makes it so you have to click on flash for it to play. Gets rid of all those annoying flash advertisements.
|
hm here's a question, I used to have an extension that if I press ctrl alt S or ctrl shift S, it would save all the pictures loaded in tabs (it worked well together with linky) anyone know what it was? or if it was linky.. then the save thing doesn't work anymore..
|
Thats a nice list redlemon !
I gotta get some of those, especially Blanklast, I find it annoying when you close all the tabs. |

hm ok.. here's my current list-
Copy Image Tabbrowser Prefs IE View Firesomething (funny one) All-in-One Gestures Linky Popup Count Stumbleupon Bugmenot MiniT CuteMenus Nuke Anything |
Here's my list:
statusbar clock - I often forget what the date is, so this helps a lot firesomething - fun to use This list will probably grow once I look through some of the extensions mentioned here. |
I stopped using Firefox simply because I missed the Opera download manager. The one in Firefox sucks, and the Extension (can't remember the name) didn't really improve it much.
Pity really, 'cus I liked FF... Mr Mephisto |

There's the extension DownloadWith, which is supposed to link Firefox to the download manager of your choice. I haven't tried it. |
i have Switchproxy, Language Menu, GmailCompose, Nuke Anything, Download Tweak and Net Usage Metre.
heading off now to get... Quote:
|
Single Window (grabs the new browser windows and turns them into tabs)
FLST (Focus Last Selected Tab) Tab X (adds a close button to each tab Bookmarks Synchronizer - so all my bookmarks are the same between all my computers |
This is making me think I should return and give FF one more try...

I'm using the following extensions:
Firesomething (pure fun) Sort bookmarks (bookmark management) OpenBook (bookmark management) Print (just adds a print dialog to the right click menu) DownloadWith (so i can download with Flashget) Show Failed URL ieview |
ieview
Paste and Go (Ctrl+Shift+V pastes directly to address bar) SmoothWheel (works well, works VERY well with cruise buttons on Logitech mice) Download Manager Tweak (extremely recommended, looks better, more functions) Download Status Bar (paired with the Tweak above) MozFBRH (middle-click the navigation buttons, creates new tab with full history) DownloadWith (for Getright) Add Bookmark Here (just added, very nice) Tabbrowser Extensions (MONSTER extension, tons of options for tabs) |
Adblock (I highly recommend this one)
Add Bookmark Here Allow Right-Click Basics Download Statusbar Duplicate Tab Firesomething IE View (For the sites that leave me no choice but to use IE) Nuke Anything Permit Cookies Popup Count Single Window Statusbar Clock Text Zoom Titlebar Tweaks |
Quote:
I just added Extension Manager Tweak to my list, which significantly reduces the vertical space required by the Extension Manager. |
The only extension I really use is Tabbrowser. It keeps all the porn windows contained within one.

thanks redlemon, Magpie was what i was looking for (to save all the pics in tabs) and that extension manager tweak is nice too

[Request] Additions to the new Extension Manager. - MozillaZine Forums It's on the second page, in a link by Gorgias. Oh, and the server doesn't give the right MIMEtype, so you have to save it to your harddrive, then drag it into an open Extension Manager window to install. |
yeah i fig'd out that I had to drag the file over to the extentions window. thanks
|
im using
google bar all-in-one gestures (this is the best!) nuke anything (good for porn banners) |
Hmm... This has been very helpful. I have been adding to my extension list.
I had a question though, micah67, I tried finding TabX in the firefox extension page but couldn't find it. Do you have a link for that? Sounds useful. I would add my support behind gmail notifier (notifies you when you have new gmail) and Stumbleupon (random links from the internet with a community supporting it). |
stumbleupon is very cool.. esp when you're bored, hehe. although I can't use it right now cause I get the latest nightly builds and at the moment SU toolbar is not working with it..
|
I just switched all the way to Firefox last month and I think I just installed 10-12 extensions from these lists or website. Thanks all, redlemon in particular.
Most nice is the Noia skin you mentioned silver26. Great stuff here. |

Ahhh! Thanks guys! That page does seem much more comprehensive.
I now have another extension to throw my support behind. TabX makes closing the tabs much more intuitive than normally. |

DOM Inspector 1.0
Allow Right-Click (allows just that on sites that try and prevent it) Close Tab On Double Click Dictionary Search (highlight word on page, right click, opens new tab with definition) Statusbar Clock Firesomething Linky |
I know what I'm dl'in tonight...
I'm still usin Moz 1.7. After my fiancee get's done with me, I got some stuff to find and stuff to do. |
After I installed the "Single Window" I can only open one instance of FireFox... is this normal ?
When I open a second window, I can only goto the mozilla site :( |
I have a lot of search engines and adware.
|
I had a problem with two tabs opening up when I clicked on a link in outlook. Seems there's a bug that can be fixed with a reg edit. After installing that, I removed "single window" and have "tabbrowser preferences" doing the work of opening tabs instead of windows.
|
Google bar
Basics (adds a new tab button to the tab bar) I have no idea why i'm using this one. I've never used it. :| Single Window (opens all links in new tabs) |
Now that I have the Google bar, is there a way to get rid of the default Google window next to the address window in Firesheep? (i love firesomething)
|
All-in-one gestures (my favourite)
Dictionary search Googlebar Paste and Go User agent switcher Focus last selected tab Single Window Download statusbar Session saver Plain text links IEview As someone mentioned, the download manager needs improvement. I wish the developers could steal some ideas from GetRight. |
All-in-one gestures
Dictionary Search StumbleUpon UndoTab Gmail Notifier Gmail composer DCOM I wish that there were other good download managers for Linux but I've yet to find one that is really good. If there were, I'd probably use the ext for the external download manager. |

That should move it from your Toolbar to the "Customize" folder with the other images, dividers, etc. Take care. |
Is there a way to disable extensions without uninstalling them?
For instance, I am not sure if I want to use the Google Toolbar yet, but it's nice to have in case I decide to enable it.. Can this be done? Thanks. |

I noticed that if I go to "View" and click "Google Toolbar" at the bottom of the menu, it disappears. It is still running in the background through, right? Furthermore, is there any point to having it run in the background instead of just disabling it? Or is it just a waste of resources if I am not "viewing" it. EDIT: Another question.. Do I have to tweak settings or re-download media programs to watch movies online? I just went to Team XBox to watch some clips of the Ninja Gaiden download, and instead of a movie, I got the "Click here to get the Plugin" message. It's a windows media file, and I already have that installed.. What's up? Thanks again. |

Is there anything that allows AVIs, MPEGs, WMVs, and ASFs to be played within the browser, a la Internet Explorer.
|
Man, i have no idea what you guys are talking about... what the heck is FireFox? guess i'll have to google it.
|
Does anyone know why firefox has a hard time with cold fusion pages?
For example: I admin a discussion forum for students using Fusetalk. When I login to the admin section- I can't actually click on anything that generates a change. I can look at anything just not change anything? Any suggestions for an extension that would allow Firefox to work better with cold fusion (I also have problems with a cold fusion online text editor.) |

My Gmail Notifier Login extension doesn't work anymore. I get "failed to log in. please verify username and password"
Obviously I did that. I'm guessing that Gmail is blocking this extension but I was wondering if there was anyone else having this problem? |
I just wanted to say that if anybody's using Tabbrowser Extensions and hasn't updated to 0.9.3 yet, don't. Wait until that extension updates, I know I am. All my other extensions work fine though.
DownloadWith DownloadStatusBar Download Manager Tweak Extension Manager Tweak ieview Paste and Go SmoothWheel MozFBRH Add Bookmark Here DictionarySearch VerifyURL All-in-One Gestures (may work in 0.9.3) Tabbrowser Extensions (does not work in 0.9.3) |

Anyone else using Firefox wanna tell us what extensions you're using?
|
I've recently found have have been trying out weatherfox http://weatherfox.mozdev.org/
basically weather bug without the spyware, but integrated into the browser. Also using popup alt attribute http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_popupalt.html.en just to see the alt tags on the non-compliant websites. |
I may have found the greatest firefox extension ever! well i like it!.. hehe
its called spoofx. http://spoofx.shitforbrains.org/ its a built in spoofer for firefox. i tried the ie version called spooph but it was too cumbersome and never worked for me. all the questions you will likely have will be answered on the webpage. there are tutorials http://spoofx.shitforbrains.org/help/tutorials/0.2/ you are going to have to download spooph for the albums http://www.shitforbrains.org/spooph/ that you will have to import into spoofx have fun! |
Woah! this thread is still going?
Ill have to check out some of these extensions. |
Using Firesomething, adblock, bugmenot and Gmail notifier. Firefox really is the ultimate browser

After reading this thread I decided to try and install firefox. It seems pretty cool! Thanks for all the great information! Anyways, I have a small problem. I figured out how to set it to open 4 webpages that I view most often in seperate tabs when I open the program. I also figured out how to put in some bookmarks in the menu bar of other web pages that I view often. Now what I want it to do is to open the bookmarks I click in *new* tabs, not just overwrite the tab that I happen to have open at the time. How can I do this? I installed a bunch of the extensions that you guys have listed here and still can't figure it out. Thanks a bunch!
|

Oh, and also, enter about:config into the URL bar, then in the filter type tabs and set the preference browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace to false. That way, when you open an entire folder into new tabs, they'll show up at the end instead of replacing current tabs (I don't know why this isn't the default). Oh there's also browser.tabs.opentabfor.bookmarks, you could set that to true. |
Quote:
|
Missy, do you have a scroll-mouse? If not, on Windows you can hold down the Ctrl key, and on the Mac, the Apple key, while left-clicking. It is way better with a scroll mouse.
And yeah, about:config is a messy area. But you can do the coolest stuff back there. |
Is there an extension like ctrl+j in Opera - it opens a popup with all links on a page, then you can easily copy the ones you want to clipboard for processing with a d/l program.
 |

but I don't want to download them all.
sometimes the links are ones I just don't want. I just need to get em into my clipboard. :( I want to love firefox, I really do....but I hate having to right-click everything in certain situations. somebody's *got* to have thought of this :( |
Quote:
http://downthemall.mozdev.org/ss/dtalinksmac.jpg There is one that is hotkey based called magpie http://www.bengoodger.com/software/tabloader/ And also one called "flashgot" that integrates with several popular dowload managers (flashget, getright, etc) http://software.informaction.com/cat...oduct=flashgot |
alright, I'll look into downthemall - and hope it goes to the clipboard too.
my d/l manager is offline explorer enterprise (mostly for site/page-rip type stuff). I don't have a manager for other stuff (zips, movies, etc) installed now, last one I used was reget deluxe, if I install one at some point it would probably be that or flashget or getright. basically how I want to use this feature is either get a bunch of html pages on clipboard, or sometimes zips/vids/pdfs/mp3s/etc. |
I read through this thread and I don't believe I saw an extension that does what I need it to do. I'm looking for one that will allow you to click a button to roll up the address bar, tab bar, and the File/Edit/View/etc. bar ala just plain Mozilla.
|
I'm currently using adblock and single window. I love adblock since I can just right click on ads and block them using modifiers. Adblock can also take care of files of certain types, such as .swf. I'm only exposed to a tenth of the ads that I used to see.

ive got a pretty huge list of extensions loaded:
googlebar - pretty much says it all web developer - invaluable if you build webpages, highlights table cells, has links to html verifiers, speed reports, lets you see cookies set by a site and much more JS Console Extras - adds functionality to the javascript console for lightweight debugging. single window - forces most windows with target=_blank to open in new tabs. ieview - lets you load a page into ie, useful for active x sites and ones that just wont play nice with ff. I may be deleting this since launchy duplicates the function launchy - lets you select what program performs a function. i use it to view source of a page in my favorite text editor. it also can reload a page into ie, open mailto links, media links stuff like that. status bar clock - i like auto hide toobars so i like to have a clock in the status bar Diggler - makes it easier to move through directories and clears the location bar BugMeNot - interfaces with www.bugmenot.com to bypass compulsory web registration. works well with news sites and such. downTHEMall - lets you download all links in a page, can be filtered for media type or other parameters EditCSS - this is pretty sweet. you can open the css for a site, any site, in a sidebar and view the effects of realtime changes to the styles. firefoxview - adds a context menu item to load pages viewed in ie into firefox. only fair i guess. foxy tunes - control your media player from the status bar. scrolls the song playing and such. works with itunes, winamp, winmedia player, and xmms. super DragAndGo - you can click a link, drag it, and it opens in a new tab. my favorite extension. gmail notifier - keeps an eye on your gmail account and lets you know when you have mail. also lets you open gmail with a single click. Linkification - turns plain text urls into links javascript debugger - if you work with javascript this will save you tons of time. disable targets for downloads - prevents download links from opening a blank window. user agent switcher - lets you spoof your user agent, makes sites think that your firefox browser is ie. this way you can see if a site that claims it doesnt work with ff does or not. a4seo - mostly just lets you look at backlinks to a page. if you are involved with search engine optimization or rankings at all this is kind of helpful. adblock - filters ads from web pages gcache - lets you see the google cache of a page. man i guess i really do have alot of these. |
i just have a few:
dom inspector foxytunes image zoom |

Mouse Gestures - use mouse gestures to control Firefox
Flashget - Downloading util Down Them All - Downloading util RefSpoof - Spoofs the "referer" header so that a target web page believes you have surfed in from some place else. Hehhe... I guess I'm the only one using refspoof. |
