What's Your Speed?

Just curious about other people's connection speeds.

I ran a test here:

http://tech.msn.com/products/speedtest.armx

And got: 2839.2 Kbps - You

Are you higher? Lower? The same?

Mine seems to be getting faster and faster (I have not done anything to my service). When I first got my cable modem a year and a half ago I clocked around 1400kbps.

If you are getting faster, I would be curious to know how, what service, company, etc.

Oh yeah, this is a connection in my home, so it is not commerical in any way.

Is there a better place to test your connection speed?

Thanks,

redarrow 07-06-2004 12:40 AM

I got 3225.3 kbps.

I remember a place that did this sort of thing as well, but I forgot the name.

I found the other one (dsl reports) that I used in the past.

I came in a 3011kbps (with another P.C. hooked up and using the internet as well).

Here is the link:

redarrow,

Who is your internet provider?

MooseMan3000 07-06-2004 04:08 AM

Mine varies ridiculously... from about 1200 Kb to about 2900.

I think my bandwidth is shared among too many people.

phredgreen 07-06-2004 04:38 AM

hrm. mine is a pathetic 324.9 kbps. we're on some kind of shit dsl service through verizon. I can'tw ait until we move from this dump and get cablemodem.

bltzkriegmcanon 07-06-2004 05:39 AM

I got a range of 930kbs all the way to 3.5mb/s here at work. I'll do a test at home a little later to see what the ol' cable modem can pull.

EDIT: Home speed is a blazing 2350 kb/s. Gotta love the cable.

Yeehaw! 4210.5 kbps

Unfortunately, I'm at the library, which runs a T1, I think. At my house, no internet at all!

Polyphobic 07-06-2004 08:52 AM

2.7 mbps at home.
Work is 1.2 mbps

I usually use
Bandwith Place

spectre 07-06-2004 08:55 AM

610.1 Kbps on the first link.
459 kbps./104 kbps. on the second.

KMA-628 07-06-2004 09:54 AM

polyphobic,

Can I be so bold as to ask how much for "Bandwidth Place" (your home connection, correct?)

I am getting royally screwed by Comcast for my connection (plus, we are in the same area). Because I don't have cable T.V. my bill is almost $60.00 a month.

KMA-628 07-06-2004 09:55 AM

At what point are you going fast enough?

At what point are you going so fast that going faster isn't noticeable?

bob32 07-06-2004 09:58 AM

Bandwidth Place is a place to do speed tests. I go there a lot too.

Can't do a speed test now b/c I've been downloading some things, but my connection usually maxes out at about 360kB/s while downloading things. So that comes out to about 2880kb/s

I don't think that is possible. You simply find more uses for the new speed. Ex: once we have enough speed then fullscreen video on demand will be possible. Thus, the greater the speed the greater the possibilities.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Ok, not seriously... I just hit the back button in Firefox and my guess is that it loaded the cached files and calculated that...

brandon11983 07-06-2004 07:47 PM

Not bad for a small time wireless tea shop.

KMA-628 07-06-2004 10:32 PM

Asuka{eve} 07-07-2004 12:39 AM
