Delay In Folder Openings

Hey Everyone,
I have noticed something weird as of late. When I click on a folder, on either drive, it is taking a little longer to open them. I guess you could describe it as lag. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix the problem? Thanks for any help.

Sys specs:
P4 2.6 HT
1.25G of 3200 DDR RAM
ATI 9800 Pro
M-Audio Rev 7.1
Win XP Sp1

When's the last time you defragged your hard drive? Heavy fragmentation of the files could easily cause what you're describing.

Cleaning out your temp folders can help as well as defragging (or do both if you have the time)

are you running a new scanner that checks directories when you open them, like a new virus scanner?
